Win some, lose some. Funny old day, today.

Well after the heavy rain stopped I started work about 10 o'clock.

Part of my round is set in a road with four blocks of four pre WW1 houses with a lane up the back and access to it between two houses of which I do ten and a trad guy does three. I was eleven to two up until I dumped someone for telling me not to go back til spring and so he uses the trad guy.

But today wife of the young couple on the end of one of the terraces and who let me round the back to get the rest said she was sorry to say that she was going to go with the trad. guy and that it was only down to price because he only charges £12 whereas I charge £20.

After ascertaining that I could still use the alleyway to get to the back windows of other customers I asked how he was going to reach the window above the conservatory and the three rooflights to which they explained they would do them themselves from the inside.

Now this is a three bed end of terrace with a large wrap around conservatory and even she said "I don't see how he will make any money but that her husband had agreed to it."

So that was that.

Now four doors down the old lady who has a similar property but with no conny or rooflights pays £15.00 and her daughter came out to pay me and asked if I do houses in Stoke Bishop (which is about a mile in the other direction from where I live) and she asked me for a guide price on the basis it was about the same size as her mum's house with a few more windows but no conservatory or porch.

I said "Don't hold me to it but your probably looking at about £20 but I can tell you accurately when I see it." She said "I'm paying £27.00" and if you can do it for £20 the jobs yours."

Funny old game.
It's a game of three halves!
