I've contacted them a couple of times also to be told they would get back to me but never did.

Probably just busy.

Has anyone wondered why a lot of people stay very quiet when anyone asks about canvassers in general.
People who use previously don't really come forward maybe one or two maximum.
It's probably because they struggled to make a profit and when you're paying out a hefty price for a first clean you really need them to stick over a year. A 3 clean guarantee isn't enough.
You have a lot of running costs to do those three cleans and wages paying yourself or your staff like wise.

I just canvass myself. I think it’s better that way as you meet the customer who you will be dealing with and it’s free.

It certainly is better doing it yourself but me personally I can't think of many things worse then canvassing. Hate it with a passion, hence why I've always paid for it doing, the pain of handing over money and getting probably a poorer result is still preferable in my eyes to doing it myself

But everyone is different and there is more than one way to skin a cat.

If you're paying 3 times the clean you probably need them to stick for at least 6 cleans to break even and pay yourself and your expenses.
Think of it as paying six times the clean. Surely that will motivate you to nip outside with clipboard and Pen and just walk n talk.. I suppose I pay for my DIY van jobs laughable stuff that most will also think is easy guess it's swings and roundabouts

I paid canvassers to build most of my round when starting out.

You are correct it does work out about 6 times, but no i t didnt motivate me to get out myself, im not sure what would to be honest i hate canvassing that much i dont think anything would get me doing it.

Yes on the flip side i have D.I.Y`d everything and have spent very little on equipment really, all my stuff is second hand or D.I.Y except poles.

Even my signwriting only cost about 50 quid or so as done myself, i prefer to do the things im good at and pay others to do the things i hate...like canvassing

That said i havent used a canvasser for over a year and probably wouldnt use another as i have much cheaper ways to build work these days,
