Attempted break into van
« on: February 10, 2019, 06:51:42 pm »
As headline

Discovered rear door lock had been forced on my fiat doblo van.

They must have given up
Not sure if it was last night in communal car park

or this afternoon in Lidl’s car park
As that’s when I discovered it

When going to unlock back doors
To put shopping in

Anyone got an idea of cost to replace lock

Also anyone recommend someone
I live in Waltham Abbey Essex

Thanks lee

Ask a Fiat Dealer.
Then ask a Locksmith. (Might suggest better stronger arrangement)
Then ask a local garage.

If it'd dopey money then insurance will pay over and above the excess.

It's a game of three halves!

phone a mobile locksmith....it wont be cheap but theyll sort it quickly for you......

dont bother with a dealer it will cost A LOT more than the mobile locksmith for sure.....

local garages normally dont do this type of work however they will probably know someone who does....
price higher/work harder!

I dunno you might be right.
But the mobile one's are not always cheap.
I remember some years ago being stranded at the side of the road after dropping my van key down a drain hole.
I phoned the breakdown company who sent a mobile locksmith out to me.
Cost me £150 just for a key.

Thanks everyone  results are as follows

Mobile locksmiths not interested in repairing or replacing lock
Want to upgrade me to deadlocks

Fiat main dealer wants £114 to assess then whatever  it is on top.
Looks like around £350 but probably more

Local garage wants the same £350
As say fiat will only sell him a set of locks
Fit the broke one and keep others

He’s advice leave it
Can still lock and unlock from inside van 🤔😑

Priority now is to sign write van as ashamed to say had a year and not got around to it

Gonna go with same signage
Didn’t want to as a mario bros type character holding ladder and bucket

I’m wfp so looks dated but thinking it will deter people away from van if they think all you got is a bucket and scrim

Worked on my ford escort van for 14 yrs no break ins. Same style bulkhead no rear windows

Or maybe just lucky .

Maybe if I get another van hope 5 yrs time will get one with rear windows

Rather them break window if I’m silly enough to leave stuff in over night

But too much thinking brain hurts back to work

Dodge one bullet and get clipped by 2 others 😀😭

Thanks everyone

Regarding excess

I think mine is £300

Damage is just to key lock
Burred up so key won’t go in

So I think won’t bother with insurance as I’ll be caned for years on that one

Great world we live in

I do have a crime reference number
And case is closed

So that’s nice 👍

Hello Alan was thinking that as seen part on eBay for £50 to £888 🤭

Could I do this myself looks like wiring coming off lock has little usb type plug that I guess connects to a female plug

Only thing is outside barrel where keys go into
On outside of door is mashed

Where scumbag has jammed something in it.

Probably if dealership did the job I’d still have a separate key 😱

Should be able to do it yourself lee check on you tube there's sure to be plenty videos  if the damage isn't too bad to the door skin etc. A while back had my shogun done they were amateurs smashed side window ,steering lock ignition and plastics they didn't get it away but the damage was costly :( hope you get it sorted ;D

Winston Churchill made this Country Bankrupt, and lost the British Empire. And as for Thatcher, she became a puppet for Rupert Murdoch, she wasn't really in charge of the Country!
