Users of both Phantom and/or Extreme ....??
« on: January 21, 2019, 05:32:36 pm »
Been thinking of changing over the the Phantom, mainly because of the clamp system wearing too quickly on my extreme. However cost would be a lot because I have an Extreme 25 but I have 2 extensions which I use twice a month.
Just gone onto both sites:
Phantom is lighter than the Extreme
Extreme is also out of stock, is this a sign...??
Is it worth doing a full change over.

Any advice Gents

There as been a few negative reviews about the Phantom on some of the facebook sites, poles jamming i think was one, have you had a look at the Ova8 pole

The clamps on my Extreme were causing the pole to wear and 'spin'.
I saw the Gardiners video on how to repair this using 2 part epoxy resin and it's like a new pole again.
Did this in the summer and it's still going ok. May save you buying a new pole.

Been using my phantom hi-mod 25  with a Gardiner ultimate DuPont brush for a while now and no issues so far and I've been treating it exactly the same as my slx 25. I've cleaned it a Few times since using it but I  can't compare to extreme as I've never had the extreme. I kept my slx for gutters etc and used it the other day and it feels so heavy compared to these lightweight pole wish I got one years ago.

its daft to use your heavier SLX pole for gutters etc as this work is where you need your lightest pole and brush more than ever!
price higher/work harder!

I know what you mean but I hardly take on any gutters anymore but didn't want to use my hi-mod for that kind of work so it's just a spare really or just every so often for gutters but what a difference after using a lightweight one for a while

I have a 25 carbon Phantom pole. Haven't used it a great deal.  Nicely balanced pole but the clamp inserts wore down quick, very quick in comparison to using a Gardiners slx or extreme pole. Makes me laugh window cleaning warehouse are quick enough to promote selling all kinds of additional brush heads, gloves, headphones, etc in relation to their super duper phantom pole. I'd be more impressed if they started selling the orange clamp inserts on their website as I need to replace everyone of my clamp inserts as they are all worn out as the clamps are fully tightened and can't be adjusted any further. Overall verdict. Great pole but clamp inserts wear out too quickly for the amount of use they have had in comparison to any pole I've ever owned.

NOTE for window cleaning warehouse and Phantom pole suppliers......... start selling the clamp inserts. That's the reason I haven't bought a longer pole as I really could do with a new 40ft pole, was contemplating getting another one but very reluctant to buy another now.

That's why I didn't jump straight on a phantom

Heard about the inserts wearing and about sections becoming stuck.

Anyone tried boss poles btw?

WindowsWashed,

There are nearly a 1000 Phantoms out there now so we are looking out for any outlining issues with having a bigger data pool of users, but that's the first I've heard of the inserts wearing out. I can send out inserts for you free of charge on Monday as this is unusual. Will also get them on the website asap

We feel the Phantom clamp is the best lateral clamp out there but also constantly working to improve the Phantom Range and have added some nice new features already with more to come. New purchasers may already notice some extras we've incorporated...

Gomo,

Pole sections getting stuck where on a limited batch of the 3k range. Hi-Mods and Hybrid range as far as we've seen are not affected. We've isolated it to a manufacturing issue on a very small number of sections.

I've no complaints with the pole itself except for the clamp inserts.  It seriously wears down quick when working in confined spaces, which puts extra pressure on the brush head when trying to keep a large brush flush to the glass at an angle but remaining horizontal for rinsing vertically in passes along a window. I use a 35cm brush with a swivel and overhead rinse bar. I plough through my jobs every day. Typical example, today I cleaned 24 flats, 5 bungalows, 4 guest houses, 3 detached, 1 semi detached house in a normal working day.  I don't do any excessive cleaning, just what I need and nothing more.  I'm surprised no one else has mentioned how quickly the clamps need adjusting as mine were always needing to be tightened further whenever the pole would start to slip at the clamps. I love using the pole but the inserts wear down too quickly.

I would like to take you up on your kind offer of replacement clamp inserts. My email is:  windowswashed@btinternet.com

One other request: I would like to purchase the additional pole sections to take my pole from 25ft to 40ft,  would this be possible and if so could you email the cost or send me a paypal request for the additional pole sections.
As your poles lose the first section when purchasing poles 30ft to 40ft and mine is 25ft  I obviously have the whippier, narrower top section so I would disregard my top section and would require the 30, 35 & 40ft sections which in theory could make a 45ft pole if I'm not mistaken..
