Worksheet/navigation options for van
« on: January 05, 2019, 10:13:43 am »
This is probably more for those who employ but could be for yourself also.

So I used to use printed worksheets and navigate using my phone.

Then started using cleaner planner and using my phone from worksheets.

To be honest to save time getting phone in and out of pocket to navigate plus thinking ahead for any future employees I would like to find another solution. A lot of my round I know off by heart but when picking up new work or doing work in a different order I use navigation a lot.

Does anyone use tablets in the van on mobile data? So they can use it as a worksheet as well as a navigation tool ? Or do you get employees to use a phone whether their own or provided by the company or do you use printed worksheets and a sat nav ?

Thinking of getting a tablet but it does seem a waste of money with a phone in my pocket...dont want to leave phone in van really unlocked.

I could hotspot my phones data to a tablet whilst driving but that costs extra

Thing with the phone is if I've been looking up an address on the laptop etc then google throws that up as soon as I start typing it into the phones map which is great as I don't always write things down!
As for saving time getting the phone out your pocket! Come on, how long does that take. Alright if your a wee bit eh not so agile then you might have to get the phone out before you jump in the van but other than that it's just a finger print to open up the phone, hit the map, part type the address, phone in holder and off you go.

every second counts mate. efficency is key, if i could have all the round pre loaded onto a sat nav so when you get back in your onto the next that would be great

In fairness I think wherever gomo is it's going to be more densely populated than Dundee which has 1/4 of the population of Glasgow. So if for talking sake he's in Cheshire with a population of around 1 million it's maybe a bit more stretched out.

I don't have set days for work I organize worksheets at the weekend for the following week to put all my work in the most efficient order. When you have 4 and 8 weekly cleans crop up it needs constant re jigging. Some days we can do over 40 jobs and its hard to remember off the top of my head what wants doing and in what order so I need a worksheet or app to hand.

With regard navigation, it's mainly when i have new customers or if I'm in less familiar areas with lots back streets etc I don't always know the quickest way and can end up wasting time if I get it wrong.

For example I have started working in a new city, it will take me months to learn the rounds especially if I keep growing it.
