I seem to be getting offered some seriously weird work - anyone want to advise on this - smoke damage - it’s been wiped over but the residue needs removing - plaster ceilings and walls - personal balmy never done this so don’t know if the soot will come out the plaster

Jesus that's wrecked, am not sure how you would get the stains out of plaster without continually going over it and waring it away would it not just be washed down to a standard were all surface is cleaned and repainted.

Units will wash up easy enough with some degreaser or try virosol on the units.

Just loads of hours needed really

There is a company near me called Richfords fire and flood they do this kind of work they go into a property after a fire and clean it all up before the decorators and builders go in try giving them a call they might be able to point you in the right direction

It’s good work if you get it but you need the gear and more importantly the manpower.  It is just monotonous hard work.  Once all the damage stuff is ripped out a decision is made on what needs to stay to be deep cleaned with Fire & Soot Cleaner prior to decoration.  We have done quite a lot of these, albeit only the floors.  But I have to say actually watching fire and flood teams doing the actual cleanup of the rest of the building the work would not be for me unless I had a lot of cheap labour.

its quieter at this time of year and have a couple of guys champing at the bit for more hours - the kitchen and bathroom are being totally stripped and the bedroom is just a shell

kitchen 6x 8 feet bedroom 8 x 10 toilet 6x6 entrance hall 3 x 6 - I was thinking 2 guys for 5 days

Sorry I can’t really help!  Just don’t know mate never taken any notice of how long it’s taken them or how long it would take.  It looks like a lot of manual work to me for not a lot of dough but I may be wrong!  Sorry!
All I do know is when we did the RAC Club in London they had been in there for weeks, we were then in the two weeks doing the floors and marble walls and they were still wiping the smoke and soot when we had finished and there was about 10 of them.  I can dig you out a number of a mate of mine who specialises in it if you like!

For the smell you would need an ozone generator.
You can get cheap ones off eBay but you buy cheap you buy twice......

Smoke/soot residues come in 2 forms. Dry and wet. It all depends on what has burned. You only get dry residues from wood, paper and other natural substances. When any plastics, oils, foodstuffs etc burn they produce a "wet" residue.  Dry residues can be removed by vacuuming or by latex soot sponges. Wet residues can only be removed by using high alkaline cleaners. The method is to spray and wipe working from the bottom to the top. Use cotton Terry Towel and dispose of cloth once fully contaminated.
You will never remove the staining and there is always re-decorating to be carried out after a fire. Even though the soot has been removed the walls and ceiling will still need sealing before painting.
