Compulsory from June 2019. Does anyone know what it means?

Not yet , my account is on it. It maybe the case that we will have to have a certain software to carry vat out in future. It would seem we have a government that does not want to make it easy for small businesses

I've been doing digital vat returns for years.

I thought it was already compulsory.

You've been doing this?

"It is increasingly common for business records and accounts to be kept digitally, in a software program on a computer or tablet, or in a smartphone application, or maintained through such a device and stored using a cloud-based application. The difference under Making Tax Digital is that the software which businesses use must be capable of keeping and maintaining the records specified in the regulations, preparing their VAT Returns using the information maintained in those digital records and communicating with HMRC digitally via our Application Programming Interface (API) platform."

Mrs 8weekly cuts and pastes the figures into the submission page. I'm assuming we'll need to cut and paste figures from Aworka into Sage or something for direct communication, but it seems rather pointless.

We submit wages that way so it's not a huge step, it's just slightly annoying to be to move away from one programme easily does the job and to be forced into using two programmes.

I was using sage before cleaner planner or aworka were even an idea so it makes no difference to me.

There are far more checks and balances in sage for VAT returns and every return, it will pull up issues I would have otherwise missed. I think cleaner planner is great but I wouldn't trust it for submitting VAT returns. Are there options for reconciliation reports on Aworka?

No, but it’s easy at the moment as we’re flat rate. We are looking more seriously at this because we do our own VAT in preparation for moving to full VAT in a couple of months. But still we’d export the figures from Aworka into Sage. Obviously Sage won’t plan the round.

Not how I do it but that'll work.

I don’t care, or have the time to worry about it, that’s why I employ an accountant.

Digital vat return just means doing it online rather than on paper and posting it. I'd be surprised if anybody doing it the old fashioned way in this day and age so to the o.p you are probably already doing it digitally. As for completing it all you need is a simple bit off sw that can add up.the vat on expenses , which in.our industry is not that much as our vat inclusive purchases are minimal. Few poles, valves, bit of office equipment and diesel. Easy to do.

I think it means more. I think you have to use a package that talks to HMRC unfortunately. I could be wrong though.
