Can’t say anyone in the carpet cleaning world has had a positive influence on my life, there are men that I respect but no one has influenced how I run my business.

To be honest the carpet cleaning world is the home of some lying bull poopers who talk the talk about how successful they are but the truth is a different story. They give advice on how to be a  success but go out of business 30minutes later or are on the bones of there arse

But it’s the same story in the pressure washing world I bet it’s the same in many business the people who shout the loudest ( who usually have something to sell) are the  ones to be weary of.

Listen to people but be careful of spending your hard earned money ( or be influenced )on the advice of people who are not effected whether you succeed or fail,

Rant over!😉

There are loads of people out there who have made seriouse amounts of money doing various jobs unfortunately they had to make some serious compromises to get to that point. Some of them had to sacrifice their family, some their heath etc...etc..... You virtually never hear of the negative side from these people as they are acceptable sacrifices to them.
I cant say I really want to sacrifice anything to get successful, so my greatest influences in life tend to be people who managed to get through without loosing much like my Dad or other local business people with comfortable yet simple lives.
Having said all that there are some people I do look up to in this industry because of the type of people they appear to be and the effort and enthusiasm they have put in, John and Lynn are worthy of particular mention as they just consistently deliver, they talk sense and are always willing to help if you call.
Out of the industry some oldies who are long dead and gone such as Dale Carnegie, Earl Nightingale, are really worth listening to.
The problem with looking up to anyone is they are all human, so sooner or later they will all make a mistake or even a few, by emulating others we too can follow not just in their successes but also their failures.

A problem with carpet cleaning is we are often isolated, if we were part of a big organisation we could have the opportunity for many powerful influencers, eg if we worked in a big office we might see inspirational managers or owners who lead by  example,

but often all we see is a picture painted on the internet and when people paint their own picture they can use the most creative colours available in their imagination ( ooooh!...... that was a good metaphor 😀😀 )

Like Robin mentioned above we never see the negatives of people’s lives, often they tell us the positives about their bussiness but  conveniently leave out the negatives.

One day they are selling a marketing program (then next day they are sat in their underwear making YouTube videos about their mental illness)

they tell you they spend nothing on Marketing .......all their work comes from existing customers or recommends ( but fail to mention they only work 2.5 days a week and charge the same prices they charged 20yrs a go)

Most of the positive influences  within my life come from books, joe Polish has been mentioned  i’ve Read his books and listened to his tapes,  to be honest 20yrs ago when I was less knowledgable he impressed me but now I have read stuff that he preached that was written 30years before he was a round,  the same goes for Howard Patridge (a very successful man) but I attended his seminar and listened to his information  but I had heard it all before. There is nothing wrong will collecting information and packaging it together then selling it or writing a book but often finding the original source of that information can be more more helpful.

If you want to something that can have a positive influence on your life download Audible, and listen to books written by the world leaders in their field (not our little world of carpet cleaning) this is a screen shot of my audible page....some good ones to start😉😉

I think most same the same thing
1 get up at 4am
2 do the hardest thing first
3 take action
4 take risks
5 have multiple streams of income /advertising
6 invest in assets not liabilities
7 work hard
8 build scalable bussiness
9 read 500 books a year

good post, made me think about influencerson my life. Numero Uno, Ma and Pa. Mum loved us all unconditionaly and consistently and had a solid foundation of faith and experience of tough times..she never spent what she dident have ,saved was very cautious yet generous. Dad was a WW2 vet MM, and came out with what is now describer as PTS, He was injured 3 times as A Tank commander and fought as a proffesional soldier from the outbreak of war in France ,reargaurd action at Dunkirk the entire Desert Campaign and invalided out after third hit during the invasion of Italy...no job on return, like a lot of others, took a short hand course and worked His way to Head administrater in the new NHS... lent some money to a friend who couldent pay it back, and took on His small business, and 30 years later and 3 nervous breakdowns had a business turning over £14 M8illion.... As far as Iam aware He never went on a get  rich quick course?seminar? or had a personal mentor....but he did have balls, drive, was able to be confident when internally he was shot, good internal business acumen, worked like billy oh, and was a man of His word and able to lead by example, and  very occasionally by fear! and a Wife who supported Him through thick and thin and  by the grace of God dealt with  the effects that His war experience had on Him.  I have some of His traits and others that he dident, but His example of how to treat people as you wish to betreated has stayed with me, although I can fall short at times... I  feel blessed and privaleged to bear the same surname as my Father carried so well. Simon
