I've just changed a membrane after 8 months. I guess we've used 1,200 litres a day on average over the period.  I've changed the two prefilters perhaps 5 or 6 times but the membrane is coated in what I take to be limescale. Anyone have any ideas?

Depends on the breed of filter. Many are 10,000 litres. That’s going into the membrane.

I think he's right, check out the literature for many of the filters. Even if he's wrong he aint that far out........

My sediment filter is a different colour when it needs changing 😀😀

It sounds like something is up.
Although my water usage is about one third of yours, my 4040 has been in about nine years now.  It is showing signs of wear but is still serviceable (now an output TDS of 020 from tap water of 200, and production is lower too).  I change my 20" pre-filters 2-3 times per year.

If you are just using the Fiberdyne as a single filter (no sediment filter) then the Fiberdyne will be trapping sediment particles bigger than 5 micron. The change of colour is the sediment from the water.

I have to use a sediment filter as our water is terrible sometimes. The sediment filter is red with sediment but the Fiberdyne is clean right to the end before replacement time.
The fiberdyne filter is also 5 micron, so particles smaller than 5 micron will pass through the sediment and the Fiberdyne filter.

However, if you’re using 6000 litres of water a week, then a couple of hundred quid on a membrane twice a year, is no big shakes innit.

And actually might be cheaper to replace a membrane once every 10 months than changing filters fortnightly. I find changing the membrane stressful though as the first time it was a nightmare. This was my third change though and relatively smooth.
