Joining two baffled tanks together
« on: June 10, 2018, 06:13:45 pm »
Im getting a bigger van next week to make it into a 2 man system.

I have a 500l tank and a 350l tank

Would you join them together or just simply have two separate tanks with a pump on each ?

if joining together how ? i was thinking tank connectors and copper piping

i suppose i could also just keep my 500 and throw a load of barrels in to top it up with.

If i come across a 750 on ebay ill just buy a bigger one but too tight to buy a new one.

Simplist way use your current pipes on the outlet and place a tee piece in it (or 2 ) going to the pumps.

I think you may have issues with 2 tanks of differing volumes regarding where the water level sits, surely things aren’t that financially tight you can’t buy the right size equipment a 1000 let ibc tank can be got for around £60 and baffle it for another £30

Thats a good idea, didnt think of that, could just connect them via taps . But i think i would have to have the 500l tank tap going into the top of the 300l if i wanted to fill only via the 500l as with being connected low down it woudlnt fill the 350 due to water pressure i would have thought.

If i put the 500 tap into the top of the 350, then fill via the 500 it will gravity feed the 350. then when the 350  is full it wil accept no more water so the 500 will fill completely. then if i put the pump outlets on the 350 it will drain that first then when low the 500 will gravity feed it again. until the 500 gets too low to gravity feed it then ill be left with no water in the 350 and some in the 500....

so that wont work lol, at least not if i have the pump outlets on bottom of the 350.

may just be easier to keep them seperate and fill each individually, yeh i think ill do that ;D
cheers

No i could buy a bigger one but probably a few hundred quid new and im not into buying things if i dont need to.

I woulnt have an ibc in the van, i know people do but i dont fancy it personally.

Water will always equalise - so you can only fill both to the height of the shortest

Nothing wrong with ibc tanks - your only using plastic tank for water storage now - the baffles in them are not even designed for travel

You can effectively baffle an ibc tank better than those wydale tanks
