Need some advice please!!!
« on: April 26, 2018, 10:37:08 am »
I haven't been in the window cleaning trade for too long but I've been asked to quote for two large offices, one of which has around 65 large windows plus many more internal windows. Now I know most people quote based on how long its going to take them e.g £30-50 an hour, this obviously takes experience, something I don't have right now!! So just looking for a bit of advice on how long you reckon It'll take me to clean and how much I should charge for this. Many thanks!

I won’t claim to have the right answer as I’m mostly domestic but i’ll give you a reply... as you’ve said it is probably best to work out what you want an hour and how long you think it will take you. Which I agree is what I would try and do...

Few things to bare in mind and people will probably ask on here:
Are you WFP or trad?

Are they a regular thing or one off?

How bad are they?

Have they had someone doing them previously or is it a builders / first clean?

Any pictures?

Good luck 👍🏿

Guessing it would take a new person up to two hours todo as it’s comercial and got to stand in the road I expect it will have to be done out of hours so price it at that : I would say £150-175

Here's some pictures to help you get a better idea.

The windows in the picture are about an hours work. I have a couple offices exactly like that, I clean them early morning (6am) and charge £80 per clean (monthly) external only. I clean 2 together so it’s a nice 2 hours work. If you need to travel add the travel time on.

I’m based in the Northwest, those saying £175-£250 are either domestic cleaners and guessing or based in the south east.

U priced just for the outsides he says there is insides to be done also, hence the approx £150 ( northwest prices )

Yes you are correct, I missed where he said internals. Probably double the price then assuming good access from inside, no clambering over desks etc.

As I cannot see the insides I cannot price. If they have floor to ceiling panels inside or glass lifts shafts inside it is a different ball game. Are some of the internal windows needing cleaning high up? See my next post for how much internal jobs can change prices/frequencies.

I have two jobs where I do insides and out and then present an invoice monthly. They are priced as follows ...

£175 and £150

On both of them the outsides are done in 45 minutes or so and the insides take about two hours (including internal panels and door panels plus windows looking on to factory floor.) Things are a bit flexible in as much as I can clean anything between 28 days and 35 days as long as it is done at least once per calendar month.

Sometimes I will adjust to do the insides if it is a very rainy day and go back early to do the outsides early on a bright day. Normally I just do them all together.
It's a game of three halves!

This post is to show how flexibility can be to your and your customers' advantage on commercial work.

Sometimes jobs will evolve into internals being done less than externals. You do a deal where you do the outsides monthly and the insides every two or three months or even on request.

Let me tell you about one job (must you? Yes. Oh, okay then ...  ;D ) like the one in the original post but 3 floors.

I clean the outsides every quarter at £75.00 Every six months I do the insides of the easily accessible (from the inside) windows facing outside for an ADDITIONAL £75.00. Then once a year (for the last 4 years and one scheduled this year) I do all the insides and panels and higher stuff for an ADDITIONAL £300.

The insides have floor to ceiling glass panels, high up inside windows and a glass lift shaft.

So on this annual clean I get Dan the Man to help me by my footing ladders (and cuz he is 6ft 3 he can do the internal panels from the ground whereas I stand on a little platform!) rather than faff around using internal cleaning kit.
It's a game of three halves!
