Hey guys, I've been playing with the idea of adding a gritting service to my round over the winter.

I'm just wondering what you think is a fair price to charge? Obviously I will only grit if the ice/ snow comes...

But if I can get people signed up its a few extra bucks in the coffers

I would leave it at the idea stage imo, how are you going to sign people up if you cant even tell what the weather has in store.  If you're not full up with window cleaning then focus on that.
Anyway isn't that something the boy scouts do

hahah...I get where your coming from though, should the worst happen make some dough out of it.

If at least 50% of your custies signed up prior to any ice or snow would they be happy to pay £7 ? to grit their diveway?Depending on your round that could equal quite a bit of extra cash.

I've worked in temperatures were my water was freezing on the glass. Had to go home with no takings for 2 or 3 days.

I think its got the potential to be a landmine area.
Initially its great as I have plenty of old dears who could benefit from me doing it. But, if your shovelling snow away for them and then throwing grit down. Im not sure if you could become liable for any accidents that may happen.
But im not completely sure on the legalities of that situation

I throw a bit of ice melt grit down on some of my elderly customers driveways on very cold winter days but I wouldn't charge them for it! It's called good customer service.

I have one job I do each winter .they email me the night before and give me the salt .nice job.but if I had to cover it with insurance .buy a tonne of salt it would not be worth the hassel.

ive had years of doing this job adam.its vital you build up some savings.i could go 6 months or more without working and id be ok financially.it wasnt always like this though.years ago id be skint if i had a week off!
