Trad man!
« on: May 24, 2017, 09:48:50 pm »
Just looking at the new trad man videos on youtube and cant help thinking all that blading on a pole buisness looks good but cant realy work day in day out. I mean how many window cleaners nowadays dont clean the frames? I know some people may skip them from time to time but I mean NEVER clean the frames. Who wants a nice shiny pane sat in the middle of a filthy rottern frame?

He skillfuly poles a window to be fair to him but I dont see it being effective all day in all situations, I still do probably 2-3% work traditionaly and despite all his fancy footwork and blading I reckon I can trad a window just as fast but to a better standard. I'll also add that I'm probably not the greatest "trad"er around either, I reckon l'm realy good but what l'm saying is most people who are good with the blade could top that. And when l do trad l still clean the frames(not trad'ing up's, at all).

I reckon it's all for show! Maybe a good showman but.....crap window cleaner.

He should keep his eye's on the prize, cleaning the window. If he wants to show off his"pole" skill's he should get an slx.

I'm still tradding after 20 years in the game, and am too stubborn/tight/skint/old to want to change now.

I clean the frames every time. I also clean a few shops using a trad pole, even wiping the frames round with a cloth on the end of the pole. It's easy enough when it is done as a matter of course.

Trad Man aint got nothing on polzn bladz.  He's the guy that invented the guy liquidator which now is the only squeegee i use, literally 0 detailing at all.  I don't do much trad anymore, but when i do, i enjoy it.

If you watch some of his work, he really is talented and he is a perfectionist, but i reckon he still gets alot of work done in a day, and his results are probably better than most peoples.

Some people just dont like wfp compared to trad.  Personally i just do whatever is best for the bank account.  I do believe that wfp is better all round to clean frames, plastics and glass etc...  But, there are windows which i would question wfp leaving a better result than trad would.  I know it's down to the user, but i get more complaints with WFP, than Trad, and not just the "oh the glass is wet" ones.  Proper complaints for things missed or the odd streak or w/e.

Fair play, if the good trad guys who do a proper job at it, i say leave them to it :)  Also, there are an awful lot of customers that really dont care if the plastics are dirty aslong as the glass is clean.  Clean glass is more of a selling point than clean frames.  When i was trad paul, i literally never did the top frames at all, and rarely the side, yet never got that many complaints or lost customers.

Aslong as the glass is clean, i think most customers dont care about anything else tbh....

Apart from the picky ones, but who wants them anyway LOL

In the meantime

I think customers might tolerate uncleaned frames - especially non upvc windows.

But nice bright UPVC (especially white) frames win over a lot of customers in my experience and they mostly overlook any odd dribble of lines that can occur if you aren't super vigilant in going back on perished rubbers or the line that sometimes drips from between twin transoms over a large pane.
It's a game of three halves!

Clean glass alone is a very oldschool thing , nowadays people want the frames cleaning.

I always clean the frames , have done from day one. Thats my personal standards. I had one in pensarn saying to leave the frames but l cleaned them anyway as by cleaning  there l am effectivly "putting my name to it".

I would hate the thought of someone asking a customer with a sub-par job "who cleans your windows" and my name popping up.

Each job you do is basicaly your advertisement.

I agree with what you say regards sometimes trad can leave a better finish and if lm realy honest l will admit in some situations l am more confident "trad"ing. I only yesterday did a first clean on a trad job and thought" this is so easy, quick and the finish is garunteed" and there was a time where l was in the "trad" till l die camp and only converted as l hate heights and never got used to ladder work. Never felt safe up there!

But the point lm trying to make with regards all the fancy techniques these guys have its all just for show, it doesnt make them any better a window cleaner as you or I.

I heard a long time ago and its always stuck with me, l even think of it when l get the feeling lm being watched cleaning by the customer"never judge a man by his methods, only judge his results".
