Shot myself in the foot!
« on: October 26, 2016, 08:53:23 pm »
Had a big job booked in, regular client who wanted most of her house cleaned and a couple of carpet cleaned in a little cottage in the garden - about £350 - 400. This time though, she said there had been a bad leak in the cottege and few weeks ago and the carpet had a lot of mould on it. I told her that the mould might be tricky to completely remove and suggested phoning her insurers just in case it was still visible. Anyway she phones me back today to say dont worry coming over to clean the carpets on Monday as the Insurance company dont want me to touch it because they use their own carpet cleaning company company.!
She might have the main house cleaned in the near future!
Charming!

I had one a few weeks back, lounge carpet, wool, not cleaned since it was put down 20 years ago. After vacuuming with the SEBO, she was so impressed that she asked if we would mind not wet cleaning but instead vacuum the rest of the house!

Insurance work is via franchises or networks

Very hard/ expensive to get into.

If a customer says insurer will use their contractor simply inform them it's their home and any competent person can do the work - they do not have to use the insurers people ever.

Easy enough 30 odd years ago, until the franchises took over. I used to get good insurance work direct from ins companies and loss adjusters but it rapidly ended when franchises began to target them.

Very few insurers will use a dedicated carpet cleaning company. The work is passed out to companies who do fire and flood restoration.
Adam Jankowski has just run a course in conjuction with the Woolsafe Organisation on entry level into flood damage for carpet cleaners.
