Web Hosting
« on: April 01, 2017, 08:12:24 pm »
Just had my renewal from Host Papa - 3 years £193, last time was £84 for 3 years. Trying an online chat with Ron was a waste of time. I only have it with them as it is hosted for
www.BirminghamLeatherRepairs.co.uk.
I will need to move even though I have complained - they say it was discounted and this is the normal rate......so I will be off. Is there a cheap hosting site that anyone uses?
Thanks a lot

Make sure you use the host papa tool to close your account 30 days before expiry and check out the terms and conditions I have copied and pasted below:
"IF THE HOSTING SERVICES ARE TERMINATED LESS THAN 12 MONTHS AFTER REGISTERING OR RENEWING THE DOMAIN NAME (THIS INCLUDES DURING THE FIRST 30 DAYS) OR YOU ATTEMPT TO TRANSFER THE DOMAIN NAME DURING THAT 12 MONTH PERIOD, HOSTPAPA WILL CHARGE YOU AND YOU ARE REQUIRED TO PAY HOSTPAPA'S THEN CURRENT FEE FOR REGISTERING OR RENEWING A DOMAIN NAME (AS APPLICABLE).
When a Hosting Service renews, you are required to pay the full amount of Fees for the renewal term and applicable taxes. A Hosting Service renews when it has not been terminated by you prior to the last date of the initial term or any renewal term for which you have paid.
Renewals. Services purchased for a set period (for example, three years) will be automatically renewed upon the expiry of that period unless you give HostPapa written notice of your intention to terminate them at least 30 days prior to the expiry of that period. They will be renewed at HostPapa's then current rates for such Services."

Dave fell for that.............I argued that how can you be expected to close your account 30 days before you are due to finish your term if Host Papa dont give you an invoice as to what the new rate is going to be..............after arguing they have set me up for another 3 years at the old rate of £84. So will make a diary note to cancel in 2020!!!

I think most people who have hosting never really read the small print until after they want to cancel.
Even if you do everything correctly and before time some hosts (e.g.1&1 and one.com) will try anything to get you to pay up.
Then there is the job of getting your domain transferred which some hosts make as difficult as possible.
For me I get my co.uk domains from 123 and the .com from dayanahost or godaddy. This makes them easy to administer.
Then I pay unlimited web hosting £3 a month for unlimited space and bandwidth.
In the past I have used, bluehost, gator, 123, godaddy, 1&1, one.com, dayanahost, and a host of smaller ones. Each has their own little niggles, some more than others.
In the words of the eagles:

"Relax, " said the night man,
"We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave! "
