any mechanic's/mechanical minded
« on: March 10, 2017, 09:48:40 am »
Just noticed today been driving around with oil cap off😂

Sure I'm not going mad.

Oil cap was off and resting next to where it should be on.

Last time my van was in garage was just before Christmas.
They fitted a new alternator.

No oil warning lights, oil warning light been staying on fractional longer than other warning lights.

Just put in a litre of oil all I had.
Checked dip stick still low I think.

Don't want to overfill with oil though.

What should I do.
I have a 51 plate ford escort van. Diesel.

I am leasing a new one summertime.

There is oil spilage inside van near glow plugs not on them.

Any advice please apart from get another van😁

Don't want engine ceaseing.
Help
Thanks lee.

Oil spillage always looks worse than it is, you are probably OK.

Park on flat ground, leave the engine off for 5 mins and check the oil again. Add a little at a time, waiting for it to settle before checking the level. Don't drive it unless the level is correct.

Hi Daz ;D
Yes had since July 2004 (part of the family).

Have to update this year, probably £400 needs spending on it to pass mot in September.

Been trying to get measurements of vans + roof rack to see if it will fit in the garage.
Proving very difficult.

Sales people just want me in person for a bit of high pressure sales ::)roll

Dave  wow that's impressive.

I'm fooked if I know how oil cap wasn't on and how it managed to stay under bonnet.

Luckily not too messy, topped oil up, fingers crossed.
