Staining on DFS Suite after Cleaning
« on: January 05, 2017, 07:55:51 am »
See images below - I cleaned the suite on a Friday.  Everything looked grand when we left - Just needed drying. The client rang two days later with the staining shown in the photos. I tried to re-clean and got no change in the staining at all.

Anyone seen this?

Any advice on how to deal with it?

Thanks in advance. Kieran

Looks like water marks. What's the material? Did you do the tests?

Yes to tests.  Rest of suite looks perfect.

Stain has a "tinge" of red - First impression was that it was a red wine stain that had wicked up but foam etc was clean.

 Any ideas for a solution?

Are these single stains from different angle or individual stains? If these are all over the suite then I would think it's a reaction between the fabric and what you cleaned it with, if they are just in a single area then  it might be what you presprayed it with and not fully rinsed it off.

As for a remedy you need find out if it a reaction of the fabric and if so it can be reversed but not removed. If it's what you have used then it may rinse out.

I would use cotton buds and test a small areas with ammonia & a very acidic solution to give an indication if it's a reaction with the fabric.

I would guess you have already tried to 'clean it out' with no success.

Being out of the business now I forget the exact terminology for it but as Mike suggested you may be able to reverse the process.

What I'm suggesting is making up a solution of bicarbonate of soda which you spray on to the effected areas. If the problem is simply a one of alkalinity/acidity then if it's about reversing the process then when you apply the bicarbonate you will simply see the red tinges disappear before your very eyes.

I'm sure somebody else can fill you in on more exact details and then if you use the search function on this site you will see that this topic comes up every now and again.

If this is the problem you may find you will only com across it once in your cleaning career, and it is scary when it happens but a huge relief that the problem is so easily reversed.

I thought DFS  suites were covered by the Guardsman warranty if so they should be using Safeclean might have changed of course but I would check this first.

I've cleaned suites covered by Guardsman warranty having spoken to
Guardsman and been assured the warranty stands, as long as it cleaned
by a professional.

Yes but you checked first and how did you prove you were a professional.

I had something similer a long time ago, not nice. I sprayed with an acidic rinse after the fabric was dry and watched it disappear before my eyes. Hope it helps. Simon

I had the same problem. Turned out to be a piece of non fast brown calico cotton material under the material.  Not your problem. Upholster fault. They have scraps and has got picked up when it was made. Good luck
