Decking
« on: December 22, 2016, 10:29:18 am »
hi all
We are quoting  a large decked area for a bar .  Mainly algae  , the big issue is  it overlooks a lake  so I am concerned  about run off

Is there  a product that  isn't hypo based  or biocide that. will get algae moving but not kill all wildlife in the lake?

Cheers
John

Hope you are well and keeping busy.

I'll try not to derail your post.

See the above, approximately 1000 sqm of decking over a lake. There is a lot more over the lake than the picture shows, probably half of it.

Included were all handrails (wooden), seating (wooden) and other incidentals (wooden).

Completed in 2015, the lake was full of fish and no chemical could be used.

The job - preparation of all wood for a stain & seal, which would compliment an extension of the deck.

Now the job may qualify me but there will be at least one person who will know more, possibly with no actual experience, Youtube is all some need.

Using a standard nozzle and a reduction in flow and pressure was how it was sold to the client and indeed how it was done.

No wood was damaged but the client had to accept that some of the algae build up would end up in the lake and if certain forum members want to be particular, certainly a very small amount of stain & seal would have gone the same way.

I cleaned a massive water mill a while back - photos on my website and as part of that job had discussions with the EA. They were happy with sodium percarb or another chemical which I won't mention as its nasty but the EA use it to re-oxygenate water after a sewage spill. That job was done with just water but we won't talk about the hire firm driver who dropped the MEWP in the river !
