Someone I know is looking to setup a wfp window cleaning business in Spain.

They were asking my advice regarding the water purification.

Is it best to just use resin, as soft water out there.
Rather than ro system?

What's the deal with using resin, straight from tap to van tank?
How long does it take to fill say a 400 litre tank?

Pure water production cost etc?

Anyone here working in Spain?

At least working Spain they won't get rained or snowed off like we do here in the UK!

I live in a soft water area (TDS varies between roughly 54ppm & 77ppm) & I use double-DI. To fill my 350L van tank it takes me roughly 2 to 3 hours. I believe the slower you run the water through the DI vessels the longer the resin lasts.

The first step is for your pal is to find out what the tap TDS is & use the Gardiners resin calculator to establish the water production cost:

I would just fill the tank straight from the tap and put the resin vessel at point of use in the van after pump.
Quicker fill times and a slower depletion of tds quality through the resin as slower flow.

If they are purifying sea water using r/o then the water will be soft.

He needs to get a tds meter ordered first before he can make a decision.

Rubbish water pressure equals slow water purification.
Does for ro systems anyway.

Pressure issues are relatively easily solved. The TDS reading is the place to start.

I suppose you could connect a resin canister(those things that look like fire extinguishers )
To the customers outside tap.

Then plumb your pole hose to that and away you go.

Nah, you just set your system up like;

Tank - pump  - DI - Hose

Then you fill your tank straight from the tap.

it takes me around an hour to purify 450- 500L of water (DI only )and my resin lasts for around 3-4 months(tap tds 029 usually but can creep up to 050 on occasions).you must really use a slow flow.i couldnt be bothered waiting around for 2 or 3 hours.
