I used to swap from Pencil to fan, fan to pencil and back again. Every month. I then settled on Gardiner fans but on full. Had quite a few duff ones though.
Always on full. I use less water on fans because its quicker rinsing. Sometimes its harder moving bits though.
Tried a set of brass ones off flea bay and they were rubbish.
A thing to note. I rinse on the glass. If I rinsed on the glass, I think I would use pencil jets.

Everyone works different.
Get some and try them.
I like them because I work fast and it rinses quicker on full. It can be controlled better when working close to the glass

I've tried both on domestics many times and I always end up with pencil jets. More control less chance of mistakes. Fan jets do make a nice whooshing noise though.

No, but that's how I like it. My pump can be lazy at times though

the whole thing is personal preference, and sometimes its down to habbits ( good or bad ) when trying something different what works on pencils wont when using fans (ie getting water everywhere) but with a different technique you will never get water off the glass and be rincing quicker.

i personally can not get on with swivel heads im happy to twist the brush/pole to an angle and reach a corner with brush vertical rather than horizontal this does not make it a bad thing just not for me

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

I cant get on with swivel heads. I have it fitted to my large pole. Very handy at times, but always trying to get it straight.

Over time sometimes things change as well. I remember the first time a friend gave me a swivel to try I really did not like it. Then after 7 years of working without one I heard someone raving about how good they were and thought I'd give them another go and immediately liked it. Wouldn't want to work without it now. Same thing happened with fanjets. Though I don't like the ones that virtually vaporise the water. I want all the water on the glass not flying away in the breeze. Gardiner's work well for me even at 40% flow rate. I would agree, it's very much is a matter of personal preference.

I like pencils for windows and fans for gutters and soffits. Personally, I find the fan jet noise annoying, I like a bit of peace and quiet when i'm working.
