i'd say if you have done any commercial work before, maybe put the logo's of the companies on your website/flyers: saying "proud to have worked for" I only really do domestics (at the moment) I have done one commercial in my first year of operating, and already snatched there logo off google  ;D

but yeh, i'm sure that will build up trust in other commercial companies hiring you, especially if your website looks more so orientated towards the domestic market.

I'm wanting to go round with a tape measure to shops and department stores etc soon, asking if they would like a no obligation quote, building up the confidence to do so is another thing though!

At one point I was cleaning 20 children's nurseries in my local area, I get most of them by sending a letter that basically said.

Dear nursery manager,

We already clean the carpets for .......

******List of  20 other nurseries******

Can we add you to This list?

Regards Henry Halliday

Even in the beginning when I only had one nursery I always based the letter around cleaning for them, if I was doing it now I would say the same but do it by email

What worked for us is sending a letter / email out offering a free demo, and then go and put on a good show, lots of commercial type carpets clean up well so its not difficult to make it look amazing, but a bit of drama goes a long way .......
very rarely do they not book something once they see the results.....

You get off your backside and go to the nearest industrial park and knock on the door. Ask for the guy who is in charge of the cleaning and offer a free demonstration to clean an area. If the guy is not in then ask when he is available and get his name.  You can tell from the reception area if it needs cleaning or not. Its simple really but everyone wants to sit and be lazy and send a letter or an email thinking they can cover more ground that way.  You pass dozens of commercial premises on your way home from a job, just stop and call in. One job will net you £1000......................I dont know why some people want to spend a lot of time  asking questions and keep picking everyone's  brains!  ???
Lastly don't do it if you cannot deliver a commercial clean.
Starts at the bottom likes it and stays there

Agreed Tony - the best way to get commercials is face to face.  You have to sell yourself as well as what you can do for their flooring.    Always amazed how reluctant many are to actually speak to potential clients.  You might be carpet cleaners but you also have to be a salesman (or saleswoman)

Got to agree with Mike on his post regarding nurseries.

I have a similar situation , albeit health and medical centres after cleaning just a couple of small practices , I now have a number of large centres on my books, and as we all know medical centres, surgeries and the likes all now have inspections.

Just in the middle of carpets, hard floors and upholstery at 1 centre worth well over 2.5 k  .

What I did find similar businesses although, perhaps in completion  do appear to communicate with each other, Why else would I have a number of practices in the same area ?
