Thoughts and Advice please :)
« on: July 15, 2016, 03:37:59 pm »
So got my first job come in from my new website.  Fascias and Barge Boards cleaning with WFP on a detached fairly large 4 bedroom house.  To give you an idea of how big the house is, i'm charging £30 for a 4 weekly window cleaning service including conservatory.  My average price is usually around £10-£12.

There is a good amount of what appears to be algae and grime on the plastics of the gutters and fascias most of which is above a slanted tiled roof on both sides of the house.  I'm thinking to put about 1/20 or 1/40 ratio of Ubik into a 25L drum then fill the rest with tap water.  Repeat process for aslong as needed with the barrells.  Agitate the dirt with WFP and then after about 5 minutes, use a barrell of standard tap water with no ubik to rinse off on the fascias and gutter plastics and barge boards so that it doesnt stain any of it, what do you guys think?

Remember i only have a trolley system setup, no tank.  So realistically it's either a case of me running straight from the tap at customers house, or like i said, mixing ubik into a 25l drum add tap water and then clean as normal with the trolley system and rinse afterwards with standard tap water.

Thoughts please?

I'm very new to Addon jobs, this is my first house i'm cleaning doing fascias, soffits, gutter plastics barge boards etc...  So any help will be appreciated!

Please see attached image, that i took off google, you can see the front of the house to get an idea of what the job is.

My thoughts on this would be clean it with the pole connected to the customers tap via a hose pipe you will be suprised how clean it will be then you will be able to see any stubborn marks or areas that just have not come as clean as expected these are the areas you need to concentrate on if you feel you need to use your chemicals on rather than the whole job

I would:
Run straight from the custies tap using a hose.
Half fill a bucket with water and virosol or whatever you fancy (fairly strong) and keep it about 12 feet from you.
Wet the gutters first right along one side. Lower the pole and dip the brush into the solution, quick shake and straight back up to the gutters. Get the solution quickly along the gutter perhaps 3 or 4 metres then back into the solution and repeat. Give it a couple of mins. Depending on how dirty they are, you can either agitate without any water and then go back turn the water on and clean, or just simply turn the water on and clean.  You may find you don't need any chemical at all.
Once you have done 1 side, use the custys tap to clean all the window frames and sills but not the glass. Obviously you'll get overspill but don't worry. Finish the glass with pure.
I always like to finish off by running a cloth (or towel turban) along the bottom of the gutter and soffit to get rid of any drips. Do this last of all.

I've done jobs like this before but only on bungalows.

I'm charging £150 for the fascias and soffits.  Okay i think i will clean with tap water only first, on one side, and what ever stubborn stains are left i will then clean off with a bit of Ubik soak it and rinse off after a few mins.

Thanks for the tips guys.

Run along the gutters, etc, afterwards with the brush and before it dries to 'knock' the drips off. It'll look much cleaner.

As for tips on the best way to do the job, I think you'll learn those as you're doing it. There's no better or worse way, just experience.

I've tried virosol, strong-arm, vikal, ciff, ecover and a pile of others. What was used doesn't seem to make much difference. It still seems to come out ok.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

Did the job yesterday.  It poured it down all day so im sure that slowed me down alot.  Took 4 1/2 hours and the job was £150.  Didnt use any additives just tap water to clean.  Came up sparkling, probably perfected it too much.  Wasted about 30-45 mins sorting the hose out and running it 70m from an outdoor tap in a field!

I was happy with it overall though.

Now you can see why some would charge more as it can defo be hard graft compaired to just doing windows for 30 squid a pop.
I'm betting you felt totally knackered after doing that one too?
