Vauxhall Combo Emission warning light!
« on: April 10, 2016, 08:04:38 am »
Hi
Anyone any experience of problems with the Emission control warning light?
Mine came on yesterday while driving.
I've gathered it could be because I just do short runs and the engine doesn't get hot enough.
Any one tried Diesel Particulate Filter cleaner?

Is it the new one.
I have the new one the dpf light comes on very occasionally .
Theses new vans don't like start stop short journeys.
I was advised to take it  for a good blast  out keeping the revs high every now and again.

DPF warning lights typically came in on diesel cars about 2001. (EU emission regs etc.)

My first experience was my lamented (but still running at over 200,000 miles) Pug 406HDi estate.

As mentioned a little blast for 15/20 minutes at 4000 revs in 3rd gear made the light go out. It would come on again over a winter of short journeys and the remedy worked.

In the summer we usually did a couple of journeys to the Lake District and the light never came on until the winter of discontent comprising of short school runs ...

It's a game of three halves!

Hi Thanks for all the help lads!
I found out if you press the brake pedal and the accelerator right down, turn the ignition key as far as possible without starting, the warning light flashes out the error code without hooking it up to a laptop etc.
Code 0400 points to EGR fault.
I've looked at a vid for cleaning the EGR but they reckon on the 1.3  engine the EGR is in an almost impossible place to get to! ::)roll ::)roll
Time to take a look.

I thought you had the newer model. Yes the EGR valve is about 4-5 hours and is a pain. I put up with the issues in the end.

EDIT - new model may use the same engine as its a 1.3cdti

Been filling up at my local Tesco for ever,  was nearly empty this morning filled up at a Shell garage.
The Engine Management Light went off after about 5 minutes driving!
Delighted 'cos the EGR valve on this engine is a nightmare to get at, hope it stay that way.

It'll not be the fuel but the fact that the DPF has finally completed a full regeneration (self clean)

That is interesting. The new Picasso from Citroen doesn't like Morrisons diesel and a warning light comes on within miles of using it. Goes out when the tank's empty and quality fuel is used.

DPF wasn't a requirement on vans and cars in 2001.  It came into force with Euro5 emissions standards in 2009. My 2004 Citroen Relay, and our 2 other Citroen Xsara hdi 53 and 54 plate do not have DPF filters.

Spruce, thats because morrisons diesal is the lowest of the low, quality wise from what I gather

Father is Laws 09 C-Max had problems with degrading oil (or something along those lines) even though it was regularily changed

Was told by the Ford dealership he goes to, to stop filling up at the local morrisons and fill up at a Shell garage further out of town...
2 years on, no problems
Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?

Using Morrisons diesel in my Citroen Relay Hdi van increased my fuel consumption. The difference between Morrisons and Shell was about 6 MPG - 22 as apposed to 28 with Shell.  Don't use it anymore.
