PH?
« on: February 07, 2016, 02:32:26 pm »
Could anyone possible point me in the right direction of good reading material with regards to PH? I have read that understanding PH in carpets or solutions is important, but I don't know why and have no more knowledge then this. Many thanks

Hi Adam
I take it you have had no formal training.
I would suggest for you own benefit and that of your customers you address that, it's easy to tell you things like that but you really could fall fowl with other things that could really damage your business.
Please don't think I am being harsh as I said that with your best interest at heart.

Heard of Google? ;D

Type in Ph and cleaning or  what is Ph or how does Ph effect cleaning etc...etc...etc

In about a year when you've read it all come back and tell us how you got along.

But the  cleanfax website is a good place to start reading

Hi Adam
Hope you took my comment the way I meant it, I am looking out for you and your business.
Alltec course with Paul Pearce is a great start, if I spoke any higher about him people would accuse me of loving him. Lol

when i was a newbie the whole ph thing seemed very off putting, complex chemistry or so it seemed, after a training course or two, its nowt to worry about, but get on the courses prior to getting out there working........

Hi Adam, as Mike has suggested you will find plenty of information about the pH scale on Google. Its great that you are interested to know more as it can be a very important factor which many people overlook when deciding which products are safer to use depending on which type of surface you are going to be cleaning.
The pH scale shows the strength of a cleaning chemical whether it is an acid based cleaner or an alkaline based cleaner. The scale is organized so that 7 is neutral, values less than 7 indicate a cleaning product to be acidic the lower the number the more acidic the cleaning product will be.
values higher than 7 indicate a cleaning product to be alkaline based the higher the number the more alkaline the cleaning product will be.  For example cleaning chemicals with a high pH value usually over 10 are classed as harsh and need to be used with caution. You can also check the sds (safety data sheet) of any cleaning chemical which will show the pH value of the product. from my own years of experience in this industry i have found using cleaning chemicals with a pH value from 5 up to 10 to be Generally recognized as safe.
If you are going to be using cleaning chemicals with a pH value above 10 or with a pH value below 5  to err on the side of caution check with your supplier and let them know the type of surface you will be cleaning for further guidance. Happy cleaning Tadgh.
