Thumbs up for previous posts chaps. Might you folks shed some more light on my accountants offer please? Basically I am about to start marketing campaign within next 2 months (Cc and Upholstery cleaning), my potential annual turnover is set for 25k (I fully understand much chance I won't reach even that in my first years) I will keep for now my full time job gradually reducing working hours. My accountant, a lovely lady has offered to me going Ltd instead sole trader which is totally opposite to what most of you here suggest.

I am trying to figure our the benefits of becoming Ltd from the beginning... I hope she's not tend to create more work for herself

Will know much more next week after seeing her.

Any advice, much appreciated!

Get another accountant.

Oh surely Rog not much changed  8)

I was shocked with her suggestions but this was just a conversation over the phone. She's been recommended so must be generally ok'ey. I am about to see lady next Monday 25 to discuss all avenues. Will update you guys after the meeting. Can't wait to hear what she has to say...  having read all over posts reg. being ltd or sole trader from fresh start I see more fellow members choose sole trader and that's the way I will likely go

We started sole trader, should say I. Then went limited as a condition of a network we did work for. But as tax on dividends went down to only 10% made sense as well. We have now reverted to a partnership as the tax on dividends is virtually the same as income tax although it is going down to 18% in 2020. Being limited you have to run a PAYE scheme as you are classed as an employee, another headache not needed.

As Steve said. Something around the 25-28 k which means being ltd is more beneficial than a sole trader.

I was sole trader for 12 years before going ltd. A very good accountant is worth it's weight in gold even though they are twats.

Well, as Steve Barnett's original post dates back to 2008 - I guess he will have made up his mind in the intervening  8 years.  Yes, Government regulation do change over the years and every business has it's own 'parculiarities' - so  nobody on this forum is the best to ask - they can raise issues which in the end you can raise with your accountant. You and he/her are the only ones that will know what's best in each individual case
