200rpm rotary finding difficult agitating carpets
« on: January 08, 2016, 08:52:15 pm »
Im pretty sure ive got the correct shampoo brush on for the model, its a 200rpm rotary 17" using it for the first time.

i was literally fighting against it, not like this guy and i have the same one.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXip50oyM4A think he has a bonnet pad on though not a shampoo brush.  when i switch mine on it throws itself and me across the room, it looks hysterical, and it cant be strength issue.

i did a general pre spray on my own carpet at home, then tried agitating it, and the machine seemed excessiveley powerful and was difficult to control, it was throwing about from side to side, and pushing me back like i weighed nothing and im at least 14 stone.

any troubleshooters?

Unless you have the wrong brush this is just a technique issue.  Adjust the handle on the machine so it is level with your waist. When you start the machine keep your arms still and practice just keeping the machine steady. Your problem is dropping or raising your arms, this controls the side to side movement, but it is just a subtle movement, just an inch up or down. Down moves the machine to the right, up to the left.  Practice makes perfect and soon you'll be a one hander ;D

Really important make sure the area you're practicing on is well presprayed or the heat generated can seriously damage carpet. If you can practice on some smooth concrete so much the better.

If its your first time with a rotary what you are saying about controlling it is normal!

Like Simon says, its all about how you move the handle up and down. When you first use one you are thinking about your movements and it causes you to move too much on the handle, the machine starts to wander and you try to adjust - either in the wrong direction or again too much movement and it rockets off.

No matter how strong you are if your handle movement is wrong it will still keep going away from you!

Its all about practice - in the end you won't even think about how you are moving it - it will just subconsciously move in the right way!

The smaller headed machines are flightier than the bigger ones, i have a 15 inch and 12 inch (oooer!) and the 15 inch is more solid and planted.

Just keep using it and you will soon be one handed on it whilst using the other hand to drink coffee!!

cheers guys,

tried it on laminate floor just now and could do it with 2 fingers, did it on carpet albeit briefly as carpet is dry, and it just flew off again.

just one last question, i think i may have a 17" brush on a 20" rotary, the brush isnt overlapping at the sides, i was sold it as a 17" but now having my doubts =S

with no drive plate on the diameter is 18" across, have i made a booby?

The brush should not be overlapping the machine,  if it did it would be damaging every skirting it touches.

Try with the pad under the brush, if you maintain it then with the brush should be just a bit harder. If still not good then i say the brush isnt correct.

Be sure to wet the carpet and the brush/pad before starting the machine up and keep adding moisture if you need to go slow.

Dont work the same are so long it starts to dry out.

That's what I was thinking. Are you sure it's a 200 speed? I've seen loads of high speed rotary's on ebay for sale as carpet cleaners.

if its a new brush it might need breaking in on some concrete, to slightly  bend over the bristles before using on a carpet.
push your hand into the bristles do they stab into your hand and slightly hurt or do the bend over?

Cheers for helping me guys.  Yes its a 17" Taski Ergodisc, i have 2, one is standard speed 200rpm, the other is a ergodisc duo (165rpm & 330rpm) its doing the same thing with the 165rpm one too.

I originally bought this brush, but a couplr on here said it was incorrect.

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Taski-17-Scrubbing-Brush-For-Floor-Polisher-Scrubber-/161865087167?nav=SEARCH

So then i ordered this one:

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Taski-17-Carpet-Shampoo-Brush-For-Floor-Polisher-Scrubber-/161431099663?nav=SEARCH

Which is the one im using now.

The carpet was pretty dry when testing it for the first time, and ive not done the concrete thing with it to break it in.  After prespraying am i supposed to wet the carpet further with the wand after the prespray has soaked in before i agitate with the rotary? Ive not seen this done on other vids but though id ask.

 :P

You dont want to use it on a dry carpet otherwise you will damage the carpet, the machine and yourself  :o

When prespraying keep making sure the carpet is wet enough when you agitate and dont go over to much as it tends to dry it out quickly.........

I tend to put down more prespray when using the rotary compared to when I use the pile brush...

just checking back in with an update, always helpful for people who may find the thread at a later date.

ran it on the stone garden path, id say for about 3 minutes.  Ended up with a filthy brush, but once clean and tried it on the carpet it was really easy to operate, so looks like that was the fix!

it was throwing me around the room before I did this, so many thanks
