Ashbys Powerbrush parts...
« on: December 09, 2015, 06:03:07 pm »
Hi everyone, Does anyone know where i can get spare parts for an Ashbys Powerbrush? .... without having to buy from Ashbys themselves....  (bit too expensive really).
Atm im specifically looking for somewhere i can get the "Belts" from & the Actual "Brush" itself (both never seem to last that long really... :( )

When I was in Carpet Cleaning I did ask Woodbridge but  looking through their cat could not find anything suitable

Yes the parts do appear to be expensive but I think in the end its worth it.  I ask my local repair man to fix motor once but it did not last

Two questions... Does anyone else here have an Ashbys Powerbrush? & if so... Do you ever have any problems with the belts or brush?
cheers Jim

Hi Jeff... Well... Statistically (for me personally) Something breaks every 15-20 jobs... Normally it will be the belt & it will sustain minor wear damage during use... over time the steel strengthening inside will find its way outside of the belt & wrap itself around the mechanism there & get ripped out of the belt by the motor... if your lucky you can hear when this happens & stop the machine to sort it out... (i always carry a tool kit for my gear including a spare belt ready for this kind of thing).
if you catch it early, you can just remove the belt & snip the steel as close to the belt as poss & then replace it & maybe it will be ok again for a job or two...
The belts are now £17.95 + vat from Ashbys :(  (Im trying to find cheaper or better parts atm).
The Brush itself will last a bit longer... but the bearings inside will rust & cause the brush to move & rattle about... this movement will also help to destroy the belts quickly too... You will end up with a perfectly fine looking brush with a wobbly centre rod (too good to throw away) & then you will have to buy a replacement brush from Ashbys at £68.75 + vat :(
There is little you can do about either problem.... the only thing that i do do is i get a hypodermic syringe filled with grease & try to inject as much of it as i can in the little area around the steel rod & just hope that makes a difference...
However!!! I would Absolutely Not be without my Powerbrush as its Fantastic & i use it on every job i can :)

I was having probs local repair man put in new bearings  but they did not last brush then ceases  also if you do a real thick carpet and everything is not perfect you may have problems.  How old is brush I still think its cheaper to rebuild , but I really wish I had invested in Rotovac   but doubt if I will ever clean a carpet again  But i enjoyed the business when I was in it

Hi James, thanks for your reply,I think I regret buying it now ???I don't think you should be going through parts that quick. Your not pushing it forward without tilting it back are you?

Hi Jeff... thanks for your research :) Our particular belt is... 13mm width... 305mm total length & has 60 teeth :)
To get the new belt on is fiddly... you place the belt in position within the white plastic housing whilst its out of the machine & in your hands... then you place it back into position inside the brush... to get the belt on the cog, you need to twist the belt over it & it will fit... then you need to do up the flat brass nuts together through the hole to secure the mechanism to the brush body... (this is fiddly...) i find if i use a flat screwdriver positioned just in front of the motor cog will allow me to be able to screw the other brass nut to the outside of the body... try it, its hard to explain, but you will know what i mean if you have the bits in front of you :)

I've seen Rotavac power wands going for £800 on alltecs website, would it not be worth buying one of these rather than an ashbys power brush? It sounds like these power brushes have  a reliability problem.

Hi James, the belts are made Megadyne their name is on the back of the belt, called them today & you need to measure the distance between the middle of a tooth to the middle of the next tooth.Once you have that measurement & the width/length they can identify it.
