Santander- cheques
« on: November 05, 2015, 04:38:31 pm »
Hi guys.I'm banking with Santander know and I have a bit of a problem with depositing cheques .I normaly go and deposit them at the machine but it's a bit of a nightmare .It takes ages as you have to do it one by one and sometimes i have 20-30 cheques. They won't take them at the counter.
I know you can deposit them or sent them at the post office .How exactly you do that?I do have a paying in book but not sure how exactly to use it.So how exactly you all do it to save the hassle.
Thank you.

I hate the new machines, just takes way to long and it's unsafe standing around a cash machine for so long.

They now accept our cheques at the counter, which is a bonus. But for me it still takes to long.

I go to the post office to put my cash in and I send my cheques to my local Santander branch in the post.
For the cost of a few stamps, it's defo worth the time saved.

I put all my cheques in their envelopes and just post it to them with a deposit slip. Never write anything on cheques?

they've just swapped all the machines over in my local Cheltenham branch because of a refit.  they take upto 50 cheques a time and can email you the receipt too.

i spoke to main man in branch and he said they should be rolling these out to the other branches soon.

that is correct all you have to do is put all the cheques in one go, and it will scan each one at a time and give you the totel amount to confirm, however i have had one or two that it wont read the hand writing of the cheque but them you just need to confirm the amount it is a little more hassle, but one bit of good news the cheques will now clear in three days!! ;D ;D

Yes, it took me a while to figure this out.  I was feeding them singly until the penny dropped.  It still takes a lot longer and it leaves my account open while standing at an external ATM, but it's a lot better than singly.  I also fed the cash one note at a time as well until I realised.
I know it may seem obvious to some, but the instructions on the ATMs are not clear about being able to insert multiple cheques or banknotes.

I put all my cheques in an envelope and put them in the ' hole in the wall ' then type in the total  monetary value of the cheques.

Santander Business Account you pay in at Post Office.
10 cheques per slip in the paying in book.
They just stamp your book and send them on.

Yes, so did I until recently.  They are in the process of "upgrading" all their ATMs.  It sounds like it's not yet happened at your local branch.
I preferred the system of putting the items in envelopes before I got there.

It depends which type of account you have.  If you were with one of the banks bought by Santander, such as Alliance & Leicester, you can use the Post Office.  I was with Santander before they flashed the cash so have to use an ATM at a branch.

Ah I see, luckily I'm in Scotland so will probably be about 10 years before they get round to upgrading ours ;D

Hi.I've been today in the bank and the only way to do it is at the atm. There is only one atm that takes 20 cheques at once the others are one by one.
Anyway i had over 30 today with me.I've put half of it the atm rejected all of them. second time about 10 wouldn't recognize the value of the cheques. I was fuming at this point and the line behind me was getting long.I cancelled the transaction and went to the cashier which said that business accounts can only deposit at atm. anyway after arguing for 5 min he took my cheques and done them over the counter. I also have a paying in book but is useless as I can't deposit over the counter, there is a ''hole in the wall'' but the guy at the counter I can't deposit there ( also didn't see any envelopes either).
So after 30 min in the bank I managed to deposit my cheques.I think it's a joke and needs to be simpler .
When I was with LLoyds I use to pit all of them in the envelope and leave in the bank simple and only takes seconds as already prepared at home.

Scotland will probably be attached to Greenland's mainland by the time they upgrade you then!

I've been luckier than you as I've only had two unread so far.
TIP:  If the ATM can't read the amount, try putting the rejected cheque(s) in back to front.  I know it sounds weird but it sometimes works.
Yet another screw-up from Santander.
