Hi Everyone,
I took on a member of staff in May to help cover school holidays and time off I needed and so that I could concentrate on growing the business ( doubled it so far!) so its just me and her at the moment. She already had a booked a holiday at the beginning of August for 2 weeks before I took her on so obviously had to authorise it.
She has now text me saying she has just booked next years holiday. No holiday request form completed, no mention of it to see if the dates are available etc etc just gone ahead and booked it!
I suspect her husband is behind it but now i'm in a predicament as the dates that she has booked are the 2 weeks that my partner has off next year ( shut down that's compulsory) The 2 weeks she has booked are probably the worst two weeks next year ( due to personal things too) to have done it as the reason I hired her was so that I could have a break ( Have not had a proper one since I started the business)
Now I plan to take on more staff soon, but it depends on the need of the business, we are planning on extending the family soon and depending on how fast that happens I am either going to grow it more and take on more staff or leave it as it is until after. If I leave it as it is then it will just be her and I will cover etc but not on those two weeks!
Either way if I decline the holiday ( I have told her she needs to fill in a holiday form) she will probably take it anyway!
What would you do and do I decline it and go down a disciplinary route of she doesn't turn in for work for two weeks?
In all the jobs I have had I have always had to get the time off I needed authorised before I booked anything, is this not the case anymore? lol
Thanks
Isla
