Help please! AIrflex Turbo 600 no more water pressure
« on: July 05, 2015, 11:45:21 am »
Hi everyone,
I have an Airflex Turbo 600psi.
At the end of a carpet cleaning yesterday, I was emptying the clear water tank with the priming hose, and water pressure began to fail, and than stopped completely...
Since, water does not come out at all, any idea on that please!?
Please note:
-Pump seems to be working properly (same noise, no issue apparently)
-Hose in the clear water tank is not obstructed
Many thanks in advance!

You wont get any water pressure through an open ended hose or if the tank is empty

Hi Mike,
Thank you for following up.
There is water in the tank!
What do you mean by the "open ended hose" please!?
Many thanks.

The bleed pipe is open ended so it won't have any pressure, but when you connect your wand to the solution hose you will be able to adjust pressure.

Have a look at the mushroom cover on the in-let pipe in the tank, they can get clogged up with cr@p, rinse off and should be good.

Mike i think you mis-read his post, you should get a decent stream of water out of red bleed pipe but obviously not under pressure but he said it stopped, and if the pump is still working means it must be either in-let pipe blocked or possibly air blockage but my bet would be on mushroom cover, happened to me on a few occasions.

I meant the priming hose.

So you started emptying the tank with the hose and then the water stopped coming out and there was still water left in the tank?

The only thing I could imagine that to be is that the filter in the tank has fluff on it.....but even then there should be some water coming through.  Since the pump had been running with water in the tank, there shouldn't be any air locks.
Also if it had been running well, I doubt if there were a major issue.

I would try bleeding it again and if that doesn't work then perhaps the next step is to remove the pump head and make sure everything is kosher.

It's happened to me too when the mushroom filter was pushed against the end of the hose and there was fluff on it restricting the water. Always a good idea to ensure there is a gap between the gause and the end of the hose.

Hello again,
Opened the Airflex: all seems to be well connected; no water leak at all anywhere. Pump seems to work (same noise as 48 hours ago!), mushroom cover clean and not touching the hose; red bleed hose seems to be fine, as I even tried when it is connected and machine off, to blow in it, and bubbles come out from the clear water tank...
Also, when connecting normal hose + any wand I have, it does not work either...
What about the pump, anything easy for me to do, such as cleaning, etc? Quite easy to access on the Airflex too...
Thanks again for your time.
Best.

Try priming it by putting the red hose into the vac inlet and cover with your hand to maximise the vac power.

I've got this machine since 3 years now. As we have several of them, they are not "pushed" to their limits (each of our machine maybe does 4-5 jobs a week on a year average). It's been serviced once only... not sure what was exactly done but it's the first time it goes wrong like that...
Thank you.

Bit strange this as all was ok before you went to empty the tank.

I suppose the next step is to check the pump and the easiest way is to remove the fan adjacent the pump including the fan grill which gives easy access to the pump head.

Then remove the 3 allan bolts which secure the end caps of the pump head which you will then see the valves. Pull out the valves to check for any ingress of crap. Then remove the 4 bolts that secure the piston and seal assembly (the middle part) and see what that looks like. The seals of the piston can start leaking or weeping after around 6 months but it would not prevent any significant loss in performance or pressure. Also check the off set bearing is ok.

But really, I doubt if it's any of the above.

if you go to strip the pump then just get all the parts and just service it on the same time.
for now just remove the pump head from the engine and see if everything is ok with the cam bearing and if the plunger moves smooth enough
are you sure all the sound coming from the pump is the same as weeks/months ago?
any greasy dirt under the pump head? did you spot any dirt ubder the machine after hours work?

I shall get this sorted (the pump) tomorrow morning and see if I find anything/can solve anything... otherwise, it will need to go to the doctor I am afraid...
I shall get back to you all tomorrow, but in the meantime, really a big thank you for all these very helpful and professional notes.
Happy to have joined this amazing forum!
Enjoy the rest of the evening.
