on my current system in combo i have john guest fittings fitted from water tank going in to a flo jet pump, pumps not working great and want to replace it with one of my spare shurflo pumps which is more suited to garden type hose fittings

where is the best place to replace the john guest water tank fitting to normal hose fittings please

Depends on fittings.

I would simply use barbed push fit fittings and use Gardiner.
