A friend of mine is giving me a Kirby g4 vacuum cleaner .I was going to use before I pre spray has anyone got one of these are they any good?

We use a Kirby but only for the back of rugs. Excellent vacuum cleaner.

Most of the time we use a sebo we find the Kirby is too heavy for everyday use.

He did say it was heavy what is a sebo is it a machine that you can put pre sprays in is called a sebo duo?

The kirby is a far superior machine to the sebo. About the weight, if you want an easy job then go into a different field. the best machinery is heavy, a sebo duo is a toy compared to a tm4 or a rotowash but both do a far better job. you can just clean a carpet by doing a back stoke with the wand, but you will get far better results by aggitating  and opening the pile in different directions.
It iis a  physical job look for results not shortcuts. I did at one time have 10 sebos but as they broke they were canabalised and now I have none.

agree .. if your going to bother vacuuming at all do it with a kirby  , the self drive makes it lighter to use than any upright anyway . If you consider it heavy to carry then i would worry about your health , these were sold to housewifes .
Someone usually says  ,ah but the certified pilelifer thing was the daddy of them all ... well iv tried one and that is too heavy ... and impractical for domestic .

Just be careful when using it!

I've always used a Sebo vacuum but recently bought a used Kirby G4 that was going for next to nothing locally.
Was using it at home last week where I have deep pile carpets so I set on its lowest setting to get down into the pile.
Whilst vacuuming I twice hit some stair spindles taking tiny chucks from them caused by me not taking care and the fact that it has a heavy metal casing.   
Then moved  from the landing into the bathroom (without adjusting the height setting) where we have a dark colour Lino and noticed 3 or 4 centimetre wide white marks after a few feet, after stopping to check them out I realised it was the rotating brush of the vacuum whipping small pieces off 
So it is either extremely powerful (especially on its lowest setting) or we have very cheap Lino   

But lesson learnt and thankfully it was in my own home and not a customers where I managed to repair the Lino myself.
But on the deep pile carpet, wow!

Just bought a g4 from ebay £60.00, like brand new, owners found it too heavy, but must say is an excellent vacuum, I've had some of the older models in the past but with the self propelled function is really easy to use.

Will be only used for rug cleaning though !
