5 years this month since i made the switch!and earnings have steadily increased to well over double what i used to earn a year when 100% trad!

i made a few mistakes in the early days

50l trolley and 10 barrels

fibreglass/aluminium poles

and recently heater and gas bottles(not needed).

now im like a well oiled machine.things ive learned:

1.always buy carbon poles(preferably high modulus)

2.dont work more than 6 or 7 hours a day "on the glass" 5 days a week (if possible)

3.dont try and cram loads of add on jobs into a week, spread them out over the month or your body will suffer

4.500L TANK,100m microbore and a backpack work for me

5.always work with a high flow, youll get through your work faster and easier.scrimping on water is false economy IMO

6.the only time id use/buy another heater would be if we had a really cold winter and then id only use it on a low setting to stop water freezing in the hose and keep it supple.

7.keep your reel fixed in the van,its a lot easier to reel in and saves your back

8.having a 25 ft main pole means i dont have to change poles very often to reach high windows.when i do i have a separate high level pole.

9.use rectus 26 connectors(they last a lot longer than rectus 21)when they get stiff spray them with a bit of WD40.

10.flush your main pole out most weeks and always when working near grit/sand and spray with dry PTFE spray

11.have lots of different brushes and goosenecks in the van for adds on,deep ledge windows etc using the same main pole.

12.have 20m of extension hose in the van with connectors fitted to use customers outside taps when cleaning add ons if your tanks running low.

13.buy a 5l pressure sprayer,a little spray bottle and use a backpack for applying virosol(or whatever!)on f/s/g,conny roofs or very dirty first cleans.

14.do yoga or some light stretching exercises every morning before work(even 10 mins will make a difference), a bit of swimming, gym work helps too when you have the time.

15.take cod liver oil and glucosamine every day

16.rinse brush on if possible on upper windows itll reduce strain to a minimum

17.i use a simple inexpensive tap at brush end to control water flow.much lighter than an aquadaptor for example.

18.try an additive(like vision!)it really does make your work SHINE!and reduces runs/spotting.

19.keep a good stock of spares(2 reels and hose,connectors,gaffa tape,spare pole,etc,etc)

20.never get rid of your ladders as you ll always need them for some jobs for access even if its only a few times a week.

16. play the drums.
17. Stay in five star hotels.
18. Tell everyone how much you earn.
19. Buy some VISION then tell everyone it's crap then tell everyone how good it is.
20. Buy a heater tell everyone how great it is then tell everyone it's crap.
21. Waste your money on a top end reel.
22. Buy a sports car.

23. Fit your tank in the wrong way round.
24. Don't listen to anyone else.
25. Pretend you work in bad weather.
26. Brag about your holidays.
27. Buy some red thermobore hose, tell everyone it's great then chuck it away - too heavy.
28.  Buy Franky a get well pint.  ;)

ive just bought some more microbore for my top end reel dave after getting rid of the thermobore 8mm!(which is far too heavy!)then itll be my main reel with claber reel as back up.

the redashe reel is SOOO much easier to reel in and faster too! ;D

my tank is fitted longways and its great as it allows me to store my trad gear right near the side loading door which is very handy for my bucket and easy to grab a few clean cloths/squeegee,BOAB etc. ;)

it also doesnt overload the front and rear axles. :)

Don`t try been the cheapest windy in town.  Be the best window cleaner. Take some pride in who you are and what service you deliver. I don`t understand this trying to do all the windows in your area so many are quite proud how many they squeeze in per day. Do less charge more keep some of yourself in reserve  and leave some  work so new windies can also earn a living, don`t be selfish.  Its not how many you do per day its how many you do in  lifetime.  Applying this will give you a good live with longevity in your chosen  career.

Its surprising he's lasted 5 years when even with Vision he's only reduced his spotting and runs.

Yep the tap at the brush is an excellent piece of advice as long as you can afford the Inspector Gadget extending
arm to switch it off.
