I'd rather take the time off!!

Me too. I thought Daz, has a few days or even a week off at the end of every month anyway ? Makes sense to plan the MOT in then, you can book MOT a month before it expires. I really can't see the sense in having a spare system/set up for something that is planned and comes around once a year.

its not just for the MOT mate.you never know when your van might break down half way through the week etc.i use the backpack for a few awkward jobs a month anyway so ive only bought a few barrels(i had 2 anyway).
price higher/work harder!

My main van is for windows, I also have a 2nd that I use occasionally for Gutters / Pressure washing and have from time to time used as a window van.

Own both vans and insurance is less than 300 a yr for 2nd, so not to expensive to keep.
Life used to be full of up's and downs....now i hardly ever get up a ladder :) .

there wont be much wrong with that van of yours that cant be fixed in a day mate, if anything cv joints   and suspension bushes possibly break pads, but possibly none of these, the motors arnt bad at all if not rusty

I'm on the lookout for a cheap little van as a backup but also so I can send my helper out on his own now and again.

Have you worked out how much longer only cleaning tops with backpack and tradding downstairs is going to take you ?
Going by your previous posts I imagine your hourly rate could take quite a hit . Tbh suprised you would even  want to faff about working that way. I would sooner schedule a couple of days off and worker faster and more productively once the vans mot is done.
I do not have a second vehicle though to use as a spare. I can see how it would be useful if something disastrous was to happen and it meant being off the road for a couple of weeks but for an mot and a possible fail on something easily fixed resulting in a few days downtime I just wouldn't bother.
