unlike perfect windows I would certainly not go down on my knees for someone ...

Nice and dramatic.  Saying say, "OK, when they stop coming, give me a call and we'll pop you back on the round" = going down on my knees.  Ever thought of a career writing soap operas?

I love the internet.

not true. cost you  nothing for some one to phone asking for a window cleaner. or asking you when your working or another customer passing on address to you. word of mouth. ect ect.

What made her phone you?  Business card, signwriting on van, leaflet?  Customers generally cost money.

Yes, word of mouth is free, I'll give you that, but why give up another potential free customer in a year or so just to have a moment of satisfaction at being difficult?

Had something similar once before thought they would try another cleaner to try and save 2 pounds lol, begged me to clean again for her which i agreed to however the job then got a re- price now costing the lady £14 a month instead of £10!

when will you guys learn to stop thumping your chest and being like apes here the best way to get your own back

1. wish them well and say northing
2. sit and wait until they ring back
3. when they do double there rate and say you only have a 4w slot left ,  they will ask why so much ?
4. tell them that when they canseled  they removed themselves from your customer loyalty system and that they have to start as a new customer now as your company rewards long term customers  ;)

ive had this happen a few times.then when the other windy gives up i take them back on and they stay no matter who comes knocking on their door. ;)

Had one once. She said she was trying someone else who did it trad (its obvious it was because it was cheaper). The thing was she practically begged me to come back because 'the other guy didn't work out very well' - the house is pretty big with tiny Georgian windows, no wonder he didn't work out! I do do them again as its a doodle with WFP and do gutters etc as well.

Another one I turned up and she said 'no thank you I've got someone else who is £4 cheaper' (Convertible Merc on the drive and Audi). I said well you've just actually cancelled at the right time because I was about to put you up by £5, so you've actually saved £9! Her face was a picture (an ugly one mind), and I think that may have been my first flounce.

Just turn the table for a little justice: What would that exact customer think if you said to her you will not be cleaning her window as you have someone prepared to pay you more to clean there windows in the time slot. But if the new customer does not work out I would take you back. Would this be alright with you Miss Mean ass lady?
I guess that would be a NO then!

I see it as swings and roundabouts. I have happily taken ex-customers back on if it means I am earning from it. Why cut off your nose to spite your face?

How many other businesses get uppity when a customer goes to a competitor? Not many I'd wager. Don't take it so personally.

But we do that all the time. Dump the dross and replace with higher paying work. Clean, collect and cull as per Ian101 I think. We just don't tell 'em to their faces.
