I currently have a Prochem Steempro with two vac motors in series.  I have 1.5" hose which is working fine at 50' but struggles beyond that.  I have an extra 25' of 1.5" but performance drops off dramatically.

A machine upgrade is desirable but the pennies aren't there just yet.

So the question is, would running the machine with 2" hose make an appreciable difference - enough to continue being effective at 75'.  I rarely need that much but it would life easier on occasion. 

Any gains would be worthwhile as when I upgrade machine I'll then already have the 2" hose.

Might make a little difference but its hard to know  ,  what upgrades do u plan .
I would say simpliest upgrage would be to do what Ashbys do  ...  attach a third motor to the exhaust , preferably a high powered electro .
One motor in a box ... needs no switches or anything .
And convert your hose barb to a 2" one to best use 2" hose .

I would think that running at more than 50ft is exceptional. There are few jobs that I attach an extra 25ft.

I think that if you need to add extra length you would just need to take your time.

Does your machine have the 1300 watt motors or 1500 watt? If the machine has the 1300 watt motors an upgrade to the 1500 watt motors would be sufficient at 75ft.
This would be the Amtec Lamb motor 117123-13 (heavy duty) or equivalent other make perhaps Electro. In series this motor is quite good.

Thanks for the views.  I was hoping to avoid buying new vac motors - especially for a machine I intend to change next year.  Agree that needing over 50' is exceptional, for my mostly domestic work, but on occasions it would help.

Perhaps I'll make a 10' & 15' extension out if the 25' and live with it for the time being.

Series motors will not benefit by using 2" hose. They rely on vacuum rather than airflow.
Until you get up to more powerful vac units you will not get any advantage from increasing vac pipe dia.
Check that there are no obstructions in the pipes, recovery tank and especially the wand.

That would need to backed up with testing and data  ,   I dont have it either so im not to say definitely but i think you will find those using the Enforcer with its 2" plumbing and around 100ft of hose attached are getting excellent airflow .
Also Mytees John laBarbera has ststed many times that 2" matters with series a well as parallel .
And also remember its not about the airflow you feel whan you stick your fingers into the open hose end , its about the airflow created when the wand is under partial restriction on the carpet .
