As title suggests....

I've recently 'discovered' using sill brushes for cleaning windows/ sills. To be honest I love it but the Gardiner white and black one I have been using for only a couple of months is already 'flattening' of the bristles at the two edges (don't know how else to describe it but I'm sure you know what I mean!)
Any other light weight sill brushes worth considering?

No.unless you want the weight of  brick on the pole. I have  3 year old Gardeners brush and just replacing it know.You have problem with pushing to hard to the glass. I mean  this in  good way. I often hear the words scrub, scrub and you only really need to agitate the dirt as its only dust on the glass and  bit of pollution.

what about spiders and there webs tight in the corners especially the webs covering the eggs, snail trails & baked on bird crap there not going to come out with little agitation. Sometimes you do need to give the glass a good scrub and press fairly hard I agree with RO-Sheen i use the same sill brush and after a few months all the bristles around the edges flatten too easily.

A decent sill brush needs a bit of substance to it. The pursuit of lightness basically means skimping on bristles and stock size, there is no secret sauce when it comes to cleaning power. If your looking for a brush head with a longer life span and a better cleaning area, look for something with a fuller bristle span and may weigh a bit more but will do more work for less effort.

Thanks for the replies guys. Just been looking at the Vikan Sill brush. I've used Vikan standard brush before and the bristles last forever, only problem is is that they are so weighty. The Vikan sill is 2kg whereas the Gardiner black/white (soft bristles) is 225g. Massive difference!! Has anyone tried Gardiners stiff sill brush (red/white)? Normally used for hot but I want it for cold.
Would like to know if they last longer than the soft brush.

Drop out , don't last long , little scrubbing power .

I'm a Tecbuk man through n through now . And although it's not a CILL brush , I just crack on we've it .
Tecbuk are now really light

Where do you get the Tecbuk from?

I use the Gardiner stiff mono sill brush (Red & White bristles).
I find after 3-4 months when used daily I do notice a decrease in scrubbing power, the brush still works but not quite as effective as when new for scrubbing bug and bird poo off.
A good brush though, I prefer it to the medium mixed brush personally.
The Vikan sill brush is ridiculously heavy in comparison, I used one years ago and although a good long lasting brush I would never go back to using one again due to the weight issue.

Im just on a second try with the stiff superlite cill brush now , had it for nearly a year i think , i put it on when i got it and took it off 4 houses in , since then its been hanging in the back of the van .
I put it to use again on Monday and totally love it now , at first i had issues with the angle to set it at , still learning now , i find the only down side is for leads and multiple panes , stiff is too stiff for these , i fear damage could occur , my choice from now and next purchase will be .......

 1. Medium mix for lead and multi pane
 2. Stiff for single pane and hot use , also stiff could be the way to go for all windows when using your hot system .

I guess the man to ask is DAZMOND , rumour has it he has more G brushes than Alex G !!!

Thanks Guys for the replies. Good point Rich on the stiff brush on leaded windows. With the quick release on the Gardiner brushes at least its quick to change from soft to hard. Alex told me he has a new sill coming out next year but would be interested to know whats new about it.

I saw Alex yesterday , coffee and cavier sarnie for lunch , i shouldnt say really but he did mention a 74% carbon brush stock with pure silk bristle , cant wait

I too love my gardiners cill  brush,  but what you say about the bristles is true.
Which tecbuk brush do you recommend as my next brush,  baring my preference in mind
I do a lot of leaded  windows

I think the vikan/unger sill brushes are more like half a kilo dry mate? Ive tried other brushes, but 4 me i just feel like these do the job better?? The mono one is lighter when wet but i prefer the green unger flocked sill brush (on a slx18), which is also made by vikan i believe, although it is heavy when wet! (+ a aquadaptor aswell) due to the bristles holdin onto the water more so. (u need 2 be rinsing off the glass with this 1 though, but i always have anyway). Ive tried the gardiner sill brush but despite them being lovely and lite, i didnt get on with it after being so used to the jet positions on the vikan sill type brush head. I just wish that vikan would come up with a lighter sill brush, because they are great cleaners, bomb proof and last ages. I reckon they could cut back on the v heavy plastic molding? makes me wonder if anyone has ever tried to sand one down somehow to near bristle tops, but dont know how much weight it would save?
