help please
« on: November 16, 2014, 05:59:48 pm »
Got a problem.
Fitted a new, higher rated booster pump today.
Also changed my pre filters.
The system filled up fine, no leaks but when I switch the booster pump on the water level in the carbon filter chamber drops almost to the bottom of the chamber.
When I switch the pump off the level rises back up to the top.
I checked the pump and connections, Inflow and outflow is correct.
Also. when I took the pipe from the pump to the membrane off there was a good flow of water.
Pressure guage before ro membrane reading 60psi.

I think it might be air in the system? anyone got an idea how to cure this happening?
Its obviously drawing water up through the filter from the bottom but my system has never run with a half empty chamber before.
got no water for tomorrow so back to trad.

Thanks guys!

Where is your pump? Is it not before the filters ?

No, inflow from tap, softening filter then sediment filter then carbon filter then the booster pump. Then through 2 150 gpd membranes and off through di resin chamber to storage tank.
That's the way is always been and has worked perfectly.
thanks

Perhaps the "higher rated" pump is pulling air in through the seals, I'd have thought trying to pull water through these would be harder work for the pump than pushing water through the complete setup.

Have you tried the original pump again, after all that's what the manufacturer decided was the best power ratio for the equipment

Hi Darren
Long story!
Started off with 100gpd unit, booster pump ok for this.
Over the course of time upgraded to 2 x 150 gpd membranes, changed flow restrictor.
It was taking me 10 hours to make 200 litres!
Upon investigation I found that I needed a pump which was capable of 350 gpd.

pressure, when I measured it from the old pump to membrane was 40 psi ie not high enough
New pump is 60plus.
Good idea to try the old pump and see what happens.
Got to wait a while! my partners getting ratty at me keep nipping out to my baby!
thanks mate.
