How much would you quote?
« on: October 24, 2014, 01:20:58 pm »
So Basically guys most of my work is Domestic and i usually stick to the rule of £1 per window set so my average bungalow is about £8 and average semi is £10-£12(no conservatory)

I've been asked to quote a primary school and they want their windows cleaning roughly every 8 weeks.  I've not done anything like this before so i was wondering how you guys would price it.  Should i just do the usual and price it at £1 per window set or per 3 panes of glass, or should i be charging more?

I know that as it's 8 weekly i will probably charge at 1.25 or 1.5 of standard rate but let's say it was 4 weekly what would you guys charge per pane or per window set?

Bear in mind i live in North Wales so i can't always get away with charging ridiculous prices like some of you guys do in more upper class areas :P

Thanks guys!

I think you'll need to post pictures.  Commercial building windows vary enormously in size.  Do they want in and out or just out?

I've not been there yet but i just want a rough idea of how you guys would work out the quote.  How do you guys work out what to charge for commercial work.  Most of the windows are just normal size, it's not like a commercial office where they have massive panes of glass.

It's outside clean only and most of it will be done trad.

Just work out how long you think it would take.  Then add on an extra hour for problems etc and theres your price.

You need to be sure this is actually what they want, IME schools range from a yearly clean to at best 3 times a year ( and these are rare ) they would all like them done that often I'm sure but be aware of pricing for 8 wky when your likely only to do them once a year.

As for pricing, ( you sound like you charge a decent rate per window even tho your in Wales. ) allow for the very likely event that these will be a nightmare price for time it will take you based on what you can earn p/h on your regular work

I think you'd be lucky to get £1 per window for schools.

No ian it's not that school, i live closer to the Llandudno area of North Wales.

Just to update you guys.

I've managed to get the school at £120 first clean and then £90 8 Weekly, and i've managed to tie them down with it, but no written contract.

I calculate first clean should take 3 hours max but hopefully all done in 2 hours then each clean after that will be 1 3/4 - 2 hours per clean which for me is very good because im mostly trad and average about £25-£30 per hour but alot of my work is not in the same streets so i waste 5 minutes in between in customer which puts me at about £20 per hour over a full days work.

I'm hoping i can get some more of this work as i have another commerical job which is good money per hour so im guessing it's worth trying to get some more of this type of work.
