hi, I used my backup machine today to do my own carpet, I,d been extracting for 10 minutes or so when there was a very loud popping noise from the machine, the machine didn,t stop and I extracted the rest of the carpet with no probs, any ideas what could have caused it, I thought maybe some water had got to the electrics..

Most likely moisture in the vacuum. If you have not used it for a while then you might get a short. It happens to me when I use an old machine. Not a problem and I would not expect it to happen again if used frequently.

Have a look inside the machine for a large capacitor. Its probably blown.

what am I looking for exactly mate, is it likely to cause damage to the machine, as I said at no time did the vacs or pump stop working that's what I found a little strange...thanks

It doesn't seem to have the capacitor that I am talking about.

Part Number 55. Its called the EMI filter. That popped on my machine, was able to use it for months but it failed a PAT test because of it not being there (being blown, the lid of it had popped right off lol).

Have you checked inside the machine for an signs of burnt carbon etc? both vac and pump working?

thanks for that, I did find a tiny amount of water inside but no carbon or burning smells, both vacs and pump working throughout, the vacs are actually brand new....
