Vauxhall Combo Diesel
« on: September 23, 2014, 07:47:25 am »
Hi
Got a horrible intermittent screeching noise from the engine sometimes the van runs for hours without a sound - reverse gear uphill nearly always starts it off.
Sometimes only starts making a noise when hot sometimes starts straight away.
I've had the serpentine belt replaced and all the pulleys cleaned out of gunge.
I've tried the old trick of spraying the belt with water - supposed to make the noise worse if the belt is slipping but it doesn't make the noise any worse.
I thought the automatic tensioner may be worn but increasing the tension with a spanner when the engine is screeching doesn't help.
Any mechanics got any ideas?
Thanks
P.

1700 CDTI 1248cc  2007 plate so I suppose that makes it a 1300 I think the 1700 refers to the payload?

It was the garage that told me it was the serpentine belt!!!
BTW thanks for the reply Ian101
Sometimes the noise is continuous screeching sometimes just a chirping or ticking sound every second or so.
Someone told me it was the water pump someone else said some combos had a plastic alternator pulley fitted that gave misalignment problems - this has a plastic alternator pulley.
Will try another garage :( :(

Could be the oil pump, does the oil light flash at all?
