Hi Chaps
I am now looking to clean carpets for my regular window cleaning customers to start with and am looking at a new machine. This will be an add on to my windows and so I don't expect to be that busy with is to start with.
I have seen a few machines but was wondering what you guys may suggest.
I was looking at the airflex storm 200psi machine, any thoughts as in would I need something this powerful for a start up or would you look at something else (possibly cheaper that will do a good job) and then move onwards and upwards from there?

Depends on budget  , i would not buy a machine without buying a water heater either inbuilt or external inline so allow extra for heat .
That machine looks very basic to me for the money but will allow u to use 2" longish hose runs .   Also look at Enforcer . 
Good value in the heated powerflite machines but 1.5" hose and basic motors .
Alltec Elite could be built to a good spec at good value .
Also check the Airflex pro with electro motors and onboard heat .

I was at carpet Cleaners Carnival on Saturday

What struck me was the number of different Machines and Ashbys and Cleansmart was missing

They all look to do same clean carpets

I was trying to think where was the USP

Where do you by that machine that carbonates the water to leave so it leaves your carpets drier Mrs Jones

one machine that did impress me at the carnival was the texatherm extraction machine. As well as small details like the tapered hose connectors the technology that keeps the pump at constant pressure, and the overall design of the machine

It defiantly deserves credit with all the electronic control over every aspect of the design  ...  it must add to the overall cost ? 
and even with all the electronics  what can it ever be more than a 160psi portable with two three stages ( could be two 1200w for all we know ) 
I think its a bit of an engineering graduates project than a high performance portable but respect to them for the overall effort in design .

I have to agree with Peter, much thought went into the texatherm machine... Beautifully made, exceptional quality too.
How it performs next to the enforcer well I would love to compare

Some of the technology is above my level of knowledge on the subject at this stage,  I will have a look at the various machines mentioned and see just what the spec/differences are.
I have a reasonable amount on money to spend but don't want to jump the gun so to speak on too high a spec machine until I know I have some work ahead of me. On the other hand i don't want to buy a machine and have to change it in 6 months time either...

we did actually have a go on the carpets and the processor controlled pump is a very noticeable different. Pressure release on the vacs is not rocket science but common sense would tell anybody that that is going to increase motor life.  Even with a truck mount I can realise the benefits of the tapered hose connectors and will be asking what price they are as they are something that would benefit me.
I do not really know the costs of comparable machines but the 2 lads that I was with both run portables and said that the machine had a lot of benefits  to machines in the same price bracket. The machine looks really good, the build quality look great.

 Its meticulously designed to be the most advanced reliable mediocre portable out there  ...
 And there is even a lock n key on the clamshell fastener  ... just in case anyone tries to steal your diaphragm pump or mediocre motors  ...

yeah every time i went to their stand they were holding long sales pitches ,which I tend to avoid but ithe guts did look impresive oh it was you machine groupies holding them up.

Hi Steve I have just purchased an airflex storm with 200psi pump and it is an excellent machine, whatever machine you choose it will only be as good as the training/knowledge you have of carpet cleaning.
