I think the initial question was quite clear, what I have to do is keep an open mind, the cc in question is a member of this forum and I informed him that I would be seeking advice in nature of the complaint, I have three sides to deal with, the cc, the landlady and the client, I have been asked to give an opinion on a service which I sub out therefore I thought it might be best to ask a question on a forum which is supposed to be unbiased and frequented by professionals, if it appears that I have been price shopping that was not the intention, in terms of how much can I afford, that is not an issue,  that will be decided once I have had the site visited by a similarly experienced cc who I will ask to submit a report and quotation in order to resolve the issue to both mine and the clients satisfaction.

Mike, rather than going on training courses you would be better off asking people to go out with them on this type of job. I have just got back from a job now 61 chairs (Seats only), 6 x tub chairs, 1 x 2 seater settee 21 mtrs of bench seating  about 100 sq mtrs of carpet, high level of soil in everything and lot of chewing gum on the carpet. 2 x guys and a truckmount 7 hours (working flat out). By going out with somebody you would see how conscientious they are personally, it is all about being geared up for the type of work you are doing.

if thats an offer, I would jump at the chance, next time you are on a large commercial job, we are based near Manchester but travelling to gain a bit more knowledge not an issue.

Mike. I would still keep an open mind on pricing as the prices mentioned on this forum does not mean that it's the average pricing of the average carpet cleaner as i find everything is inflated on this forum including many a ego!

Some on here are not taking into account the fact that it's regular work off you and and it's going to be a discounted rate so i see nothing wrong with the price, maybe at the lower end but not a silly price where he needs to rush.
The price he charged does not mean he was right to stay only 1.5 hrs if true.
Also when i'm subbing for companies like yours i would not charge the same amount for a pub that took a day to do as a high end office that took a day to do as i would know that you would get less for the pub and i would want you to get a decent kick back from it. Like i said this type of work is not priced like a one off.

You will get some great advice on here but when comes to pricing and how big their hose is, i take with a massive pinch of salt.

I would of thought that considering this is an ongoing source of work for the carpet cleaner,he would want to complete the work to the best of his ability and leave the customer happy.
The price of the job shouldn't be an issue, if I take on a job for £30 or £130 I still give it my full100%. If the price isn't right don't do it. I couldn't leave a job I'm not happy with.

Seems to me you have to much to lose by not sorting it out quickly, go back get it done properly (ask Peter Maybury if he could do it, you could then go with him) sack the guy you have been using straight away, he could cost you thousands in lost business and reputation.

Bottom line is ' nip it in the bud now'.

As Tony, I would allow the day to do the job. I might even get a helper on the job, depending how it looks.

Price is a minefield, 400 to 700

Carpet cleaning standards and price vary HUGELY.

Some say they work quick, but to what standard?

1.5hrs no way can that be done. (sounds like pub exaggerating)

Btw thats 800 sq ft of carpet, for those who work in foot.

This job is just down the road for me so I would have cleaned the carpet with a TM and RX20 which would get it super clean in just over an hour. The upholstery also with a TM and another three hours or so to do that.

Hopefully the original guy will go back and produce the quality result the client was entitled to.

Well Mike, -  I reckon you've got your answer for future cleans of these public houses.
With both Glynn & Simon within striking distance of them, these pubs could get the  first class clean they should receive in the future.  Downside might be that it would cost that much more.   But then the old adage - you get what you pay for.
I certainly wouldn't do it within the price range you indicated - but then I'm not in that part of the country

thanks for all the responses, food for thought over the next few days and will have to speak to the PMs on a way to go forward, I could really do without the carpet cleaning but I agreed to cover all aspects of work to keep my stuff coming in.
