Hypo killing grass/ plants
« on: May 09, 2014, 01:22:11 pm »
Is this an urban myth?

I've been using hypo with care but just recently I've had to use it where the grass and plants got contaminated with the wash down..... but weeks later they plants are fine, did my neighbours and warned him that to get rid of the lichen I would need hypo and it would effect his garden but weeks later nothing.

Anyone seen actual damage due to careless use of hypo?

I've been thinking the same.

I think that once its been heavily washed down its that diluted that it doesn't make much difference as the plants/grass are absorbing lots of water. I wouldn't fully rinse off a hard surface onto grass though.

No it's not a myth, that is why you should water any grass or plants prior to using hypo close to them.
Tender young plants and new lawns which you have at this time of the year are most vulnerable to damage.

Lawns and plants will be more susceptible to damage during the summer ...cold or wetter weather you will get away with it.

If it did have a killing effect then I could charge more for it.... "Yes madam we apply a post-clean weed treatment for just an extra £25" ;D

If that's your professional approach then I guess you could.

Hi,

The eco-friendly approach is to use Calcium Hypochlorite if u are concerned about the plantlife...

Don't see how it is eco as it will still damage plant life etc? It's a weak powdered "bleach" no matter how you dress it up.
