Have you ever gone to a job knowing that you are not the CC the customer thinks you are?

Took a call today from a lady who seemed quite old.

"is that Wayne"Yes I said.

"right I want you to come and clean my carpet and my neighbours wants hers doing"

I asked her her name and address and she was adamant that I had been to her on several occasions.

I took the booking but have since driven past her house and I know for definite I have never worked there before.

Would you just turn up and do the job or contact her and tell her I'm not the CC she thinks I am.

I can only assume she's seen my name and number in a Local Magazine I advertise in.

Lol, ive done that a few times. They ring up is that Steve yep i reply, i go along and they say your not the chap who came before, my reply always is it was my partner last time lol. I had one last week which was even better, is that Eddie the Carpet Cleaner - yep thats me, i need my carpets cleaned, no problem i'll just book you in

Just crack on...I've had this before myself and one or two of them, upon seeing me, say "ooh you haven't changed much" even though I know I've never worked for them.
Had it the other way as well, turned up and they say "your not who I thought you were" even though, with at least 2 of them, I'd been twice before.

depends how much the last guy charged. could be embarrassing if he was a tenner a pop.

Had one of those this very day.

Said she'd looked our number up on the internet, rang us, had us round and was given a quote.

Later she rang up and booked in. When we got there.....

It wasn't us that had given the quote. Her take was to blame us for not ringing her back when she had made the appointment to point out it wasn't us who had done the quote. Of course the client is never wrong

Anyway, we measured up and it came in at c£180. We knew the quote she had been given was for £120.

The strange thing was that she had cleared the rooms. Also she was going away on holiday tomorrow and the carpets had to be nice for her daughter's wedding a week on Sunday.

She said we could do the job for £120.

We politely declined and left.

(If she'd asked nicely we'd have done all the carpets for £120 and simply not done the small amount of upholstery which she also wanted doing but which didn't really look as if it needed doing at all. But as there was no hint of compromise on her side I think on balance we could have been letting ourselves in for a hard time if we had done any work for her.)

Her loss I think.

Yep I've had it as well I was once with someone else's customer and I did mention that I had stopped taking sugar in my tea which the reply was, ' you didn't have sugar last time ', I can be too smart for myself sometimes

We got to a job to find the lady on the phone to a competitor chasing us up. I took the phone & had a chat - confusing at first, but then we realised we'd both worked for her previously, and both mailshotted her at the same time. I don't think she ever did really understand, but as we've been back since, all's well. Oh, and that same visit we found a bank envelope with £400 in it under the bed - "wondered where that went" she said.

I lost out on a school I have been cleaning for over 10 years,
the new admin person was asked to arrange the annual carpet cleaning and booked in
Alans carpet cleaning insead of us ALLEN Carpet cleaning.
she did appologise and hopefully I will be back there this year.
