Just wondering if the regulator is the same as thats on the Scorpion and to grease it i remove by taking off the black adjusting numpty and grease the insides?

anyone confirm that?

the scorpy one had a tendancy to seize - probably cos of where it was, do you do your Airflex one very often?

It needs doing perhaps every three months. I've tried various methods eg grease, silicone grease and 3 in 1 oil. Eventually the threads will dry up and if you leave it too long the threads will wear out and the whole valve will need replacement as the brass wears out.
Probably just normal grease is as good as anything.

OK thanks, with the scorpion the valve/rod inside could corrode and seize causing too much pressure in the pump and make the pump leak!!

Pull the little plunger out and check the small O ring too, I always carry a plunger kit just in case

I have just replaced the whole regulater for my older Scorpion a few months ago, the inside oriface  where the plunger goes was scored and leaked so a full replacement was needed
to be honest it diddn't cost as much as I had expected and the difference is vast

Yeah, I'd recommend replacing it once a year. They are not too expensive and will knacker your pump if it has the chance.

yep i agree - something not often mentioned but if it starts seizing it will blow an o ring out in the pump and then the pump head gets changed for no reason (like mine!!)

Daft question, but before I turn the pump off I always wind my regulator right down , not sure if that's the right thing to do or not. From the manual it says make sure the pressure is under 200 before switching the pump off. Ok, waffling a bit. But as I do this every time, will that not stop the regulator seizing up ? As mentioned before, never heard or knew about greasing it up regularly .

the regulator shaft inside gets wet and so its that which builds up corrosion, not just the pressure

its good advice to grease every few months or so

when the machine is off, unwind the big black or brass adjusting nut all the way and you will find a spring behind it. Then there will be a little washer cap which you can take out with some skinny end pliers and then the shaft. Grease it up with the right grease and put it together in the right order and job done (if yours is the same as the Scorpion regulator which if its a pumptec pump i think it will be) You may get a little water come out when you do it but thats normal

5 min job which could save you loads of hassle!!

The lower the preasure, the less likely you will get air locks in the pump as trapped air in a pump (cavitation) will wreck a pumptec pump very quickly believe me as ive replaced 4 pumps due to air locks in two years
