Hi Everyone

Had a call today from a lady whose lounge carpet was fitted by a local carpet shop last October to which we applied Prochems Fluoroseal Plus at their request. She says that we she vacuums her carpet using an upright vac with a cylinder brush, shes unable to lift any bits of cotton or similar bits of fluff and has to pick them up by hand.

While i know there may be a number of factors some more likely than others, inefficient vac, matted carpet, static any suggestions would be welcome before I go and see her.

She also mentioned during our conversation that there are some small oily looking dots that have appeared on the carpet whether these are a factor or not I don't know.

i would defo say it's the vac i use a bs36 and cotton and fluff can still be hard to pick up as for the oil not sure.

Would she not have noticed this problem back in October when you applied the Fluroseal, if the problem related to that product? The fact that she hasn't mentioned it until now suggests some other cause.

Oily bits will still stick to the carpet if they're not cleaned up. Whether it's protected or not. Some think if they have their carpet "protected" stuff will just magic itself away.

Maybe she needs to change the vac bag, or the vac cleaner itself. Oily spots? whats that got to do with you applying a protector? To be honest she might not be trying it on, maybe she just needs to be educated as she just doesn't know?

A couple of other things. Has she had the carpet cleaned, or cleaned it herself, or used any stain removers? Do a Ph test on the carpet to re-assure yourself and test the spots too. I tend not to use protectors but there should be no way this would leave the pile sticky to collect fluff etc. Give Prochem a ring too they are really helpful.

Why has she called you?

Her vac is not picking up fluff.....Has she also called the manufacture of her vacuum cleaner? I would guess they are more at fault that you,

I don't  remember  Prochems protector saying 'stops fluff sticking to your carpet' on the label.

You should not be even going round, to do so is to say her compliant is legitimate, when you get their tell her protector protects against stains not sticking fluff. Then slap her ar*e for wasting your time.

Or....

thank her for calling you and tell her you will do a  thorough  investigation...... but if the result is that you are not at fault you will need to charge her for the time taken. An investigation of this sort normally works out at a cost of around £350 but she needn't worry she will not have to pay if her complaint is found to be reasonable and valid

Also.....

The fluff will be physically sticking to the carpet not chemically, if you look under a microscope the fluff fibres get intertwined  with the carpet fibres, they are not sticking ( as though with a sticky substance) to the carpet. They are just intermingled

Hi Guys

Flouroseal is a fluorocarbon treatment like Teflon i.e. non stick.

It will not be causing things to stick to the carpet.

Nothing to do with you and don't get sucked in to thinking it may be.

Problem is either the carpet or the vacuuming.

May well be a static bond between the carpet and the hairs, best way to remove is with a brass brush.

This is a classic, exceptions and over selling, Not that you over sold the product.

I was lucky to be one of the first 3M certified applicators, way back and we used to give certificates from 3M. problem was that people thought that it was the carpet price that got refunded if a stain would not come out, No, just the cost of the product. This misunderstanding lives on today in what people expect from these products. BTW these product have been in the past sold as having anti static properties.

Refund her money and put it down to experience. The problem goes away.

Re: the oily spots. They can just be small spots of over-applied protector, ie. the spray tip dripping. Too much and dries sticky, and soil sticks, leaving oily looking spots. Easily removed.
