Hello chaps!

I have been asked to carry out a weekly Hot water extraction clean of carpet that is a 50/50 wool/poly mix, that has been stuck down with F3 adhesive.

The carpet ahs been down for 6 months and is in a prestigious reception area (oh and it's light beige)

We have been cleaning it with a dry encap method twice weekly so far but are starting to see signs of wear.

the carpet has to be cleaned first thing on a Monday morning and be ready for traffic by 080:00.

My concerns are: re-soiling, the adhesive letting go and coming through, and shrinkage.

My questions to you all is; am I right to be concerned?

Why once a week ?  I,m certain no carpet needs cleaning once a week   

and you say DRY encapsulation what exactly do you mean  ?

Hi Geoff,

it needs weekly cleaning due to the sheer amount of foot traffic during the week and at weekends.
plus the odd coffee spill!

by dry encap, I mean that we use craftex  dryfibre compound with a twin contra-rotating brush machine followed by a good vacuuming.

Try conventional encap and only hwe say once a month.

Not a helpful reply but the company should get back to the architect who specified fitting that carpet in that situation. It clearly is not fit for porpose , any area that would require HWE. Every 2 weeks it not suitable for carpeting (50% wool)!!! Unless preventative mesures had been implemented to protect it,eg a massive area of barrier matting before hand.

Look at department stores they get the most footfall of any situation, and the tend to have big mats and hard floors in main traffic lanes.

If you're using a dry compound product on a weekly basis you may well be clogging the pile up with it which might explain the appearance of traffic lanes.

Stephen ask them which vaccum cleaners they use daily(probably a super powerful henry) and maybe suggest a sebo bs36 to actually remove the dirt(just a thought).Regards Alan.

If they are using the right kit (pilelifter or machine mounted vac say, a HOST Liberator) that should not happen. I'm wondering if the brushes on the CRB are too stiff for this job?
