110v transformer for gutter vac
« on: February 17, 2014, 03:41:02 pm »
Looking for some help on transformers for Vac.

The Vac is 2400w

Looking at a 3Kva 240 -110v transformer.
http://www.screwfix.com/p/portable-transformer-with-2-output-sockets-3kva/84144

Are these capable of running the vac continuously. Any one use these for gutter vac cleaning or any advice.

Many thanks
Wayne

Does the vac have a yellow 16 amp or 32 amp socket?

You could get away with it for short usage but the 5kva is what's needed as it
has a continuous rating of 2500 va.
Plus it has both the 16 and 32amp sockets.
I use one and its a heavy brute.

Trust me you will soon get fedup humping a 5kva 110 volt transformer about every time you want to plug in that vac especialy on domestic jobs....good luck with that one. ;D

That's why I soon got 240 vacs aswell as makes the job so much easier to setup and pack away.

It has the 16a plug.

Was hoping the 3kva would be ok. Read about the running times on the 5kva and 3kva.

Bigger is always better I suppose. Thought the 3kva would be ok for running at 20 min intervals.

Agree the 240v would be easier but wouldn't get away with that on Commercial.

Really… Is that what you have been told or from experience?

It's just an assumption Smurf.

Had to produce Method & Risk Ass for last commercial. It was a big job so hired a genny for the day.
Thought 110v would be mandatory. But I'm no expert.

We have another 6 apartment blocks to do and can use the mains in the communal area. Just apprehensive about tripping the whole block out while they are watching Jezza Kyle. :-)

If used with an rcb then are within safety guidlines for site work.

To be honest on large jobs I personaly use/hire a genny anyways and cost it into the job as makes the job so much easier to do being off grid and all that and not having trailing power leads back to the inside of the building/s where they become trip hazzards.

Anyhow I could not run my bigger 4200 watt vacs from a power socket as would defo cause jezza to go on the blink for sure ;D

I'm no expert but I was also told that you had to use a 110 on commercial jobs.
This was advice from a supplier.
I know that in the factory where I used to work this was the case.
I don't do any commercial gutter cleans so never got to find out if it was true or not.
