Gardiners CLX and end cap
« on: February 16, 2014, 11:59:55 am »
Just recently purchase a CLX and an extension section for it. For the life of me I can't get the end cap off, I've twisted it, heated it in boiling water and twisted some more but it wont come off. Any tricks for getting it off?

I've though it may be glued but surely not when I bought the extension at the same time.

Hi David

The end caps are not glued on, but sometimes due to manufacturing and transportation they can be very stiff to remove the first time.

I have found that by heating the end cap up and then wearing a pair of nitrile or rubber gloves you can twist the end cap off. The best way of heating the end cap up quickly is by using an electric blow torch. If you do not have one of these then an electric hairdryer set on maximum and used until the end cap is softened and very hot. Then wearing gloves twist the cap off.

Usually once the cap has been removed once they are fine for future use. A spray of PTFE inside the cap a light smear of vaseline should ensure it does not happen again.
